Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...
I can't seem to find a multivitamin that is a gummy that has all the vitamins and stuff needed really. I read the One A Day VitaCrave isn't the best, because it actually leaves out a lot of essential vitamins and minerals to taste better. I noticed Vitamin K and E are getting left out. Know any good vitamins with those and also Magnesium that comes all in one?
I take vitamins, separately, that supposedly support the immune system: D, E, B complex, manganese (NOT magnesium!), lecithin.
Huperzine A
B-Complex w/ Choline and Vitamin C(2X to 3X a day)
Mestinon 3 to 4X a day
Mestinon Timespan 2X (1 day/1 for sleep)
Balance diet every meal of 30%Fat, 40%carb and 30% protein
Exercise when I can
Best wishes for peace to all,
TJ
There is alot of metal and protein also in Spirulina, so be wary. Only reason I stopped taking it was:
"A double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 2006 found that spirulina supplementation decreased the amount of creatine kinase ( an indicator of muscular breakdown) in individuals after exercise. Furthermore, the experimental group's time to exhaustion during all out treadmill exercise increased by 52 seconds."

Since I take protein powder, I see no reason to take it anymore.
I meant acetycholineterase, not acetycholine. Although I am still waiting for verification on the THC, because what I saw was referring to Alzheimers, and I am also wondering why Mestinon would not then be a treatment for Alzheimers..and thus THC would be a treatment for MG. I have not started smoking pot yet, and if I find that it will help, I will wait until next year to be sure of my anxiety. It is interesting to me what is what out there in the way of drugs, and herbs especially when they may accomplish the same goals, but not be a prescribe for the other condition. Hmmm..
So exciting that my post has reached over 50 comments ;)
Thanks for everyone pitching in their input and research.

Gummy bears? Please don't take cheap inexpensive, filler vitamins - I don't even give these types of vitamins to my kids. Unless you're looking at a quality purchased brand like at the moment we have some from Naturesplus.com (these are kids vitamins though and the dose is meant for a kid so as an adult you would need to take more to get a proper vitamin intake)
- that being said - I am repeating this - try to look for vitamins and minerals in REAL food if you can. Or if you can't swallow well - try Greens Plus brand.
Vit K - yes this is true but it's for large quantities - see my original post has Vit K listed that 'I increased Vit K, E, and protein in my diet) I did not supplement with these.
Spirulina - interesting link cgreens - take at your own risk. Look into the positive benefits as well, the decrease in creatine levels.... (for me I still like the health benefits of the spirulina - as a vegetarian it's my great source of Vit B12.)
Huperzine A - still sounds great but I still don't take it.
I just want to reintroduce the idea our health problems being associated with Candida and/ or food allergies/ sensitivities.
Has anyone looked into that?
I got better because I believe I targeted the yeast build up of Candida and I did that with an anti-candida diet and specific supplements for that. (mentioned above).
I also learned I have an allergy to wheat - not on a skin patch test) but by removing it from my diet for 2 weeks and then eating it. When it was isolated, I had a reaction of an itchy throat and runny nose - I DID NOT have these reactions before when I ate it regularly.
Similar things happened with eggs, barley, dairy, butter....
So my suggestion isn't only for finding pills to pop in. My success story isn't about that at all. It's about learning about your body and what could possibly make it sick. Looking at Candida is a great start - devote yourself for a few months and you could be amazed with the results. That will require removing, sugar (even juice, artificial), all dairy, fermented/ pickled foods, no mushrooms of any kind, no bananas, no peanuts, no wheat, no alcohol (yes this is hard right before the Holidays - you're thinking 'is she crazy?'.
I didn't say this would be easy but it requires total control and focus to get better. If you're sick and tired of being sick and tired you will try it. No one can force you to do anything. But food is added daily to your body - and you're sick with a mysterious condition.
Why not look at the type of food you feed your body with????..... it is VERY possible that's what's making you sick.
The supplements are as the name itself suggests - just supplements.
Please write down if you're ready to commit and try this. (I would like to see the progress of someone else who tried this route to see if this leads to a remission).
Good luck everyone!
Ella.
Forgetting to mention that my MG is mild, especially in the fall, summers are pretty bad with weakness but breathing is okay.
I do agree with foods as well and have tried this, I eat whole foods, no preservatives or any foods that are precooked and sold in a can, jar or freezer.
I am starting to take vitamins again, currently, I am taking vitamin D3 and {potassium, prescribed} I am taking one at a time for a while, I'm introducing all of them little by little. I want to make sure that all that I am taking is helping me and not hurting me.
I have been wondering about my multi, it does have magnesium aspartate in it, I was also taking liquid calcium with magnesium citrate in it.
This thread reminds me of the times MG was in control of me, and times I was really struggling. It is not the case now, and it would seem that Cellcept is the reason. I only wish that I listened to my Neurologist sooner....she had the background on her side. I just didn't want any risk. Hindsight is 20/20, but it is the sour times that make the good times that much better...

Being aware of our triggers is very important, and can make a huge difference...in my opinion
I also avoid Fluoride as much as possible, which is in many toothpaste and much waters(including tapped and bottled) out there.
Funny you should mention fluoride, one month ago I stopped using fluoride mouth wash, I got tired of crashing after a few hours of light house work. When I was bodybuilding, I did process of elimination, I m doing that again to see if there is a difference in how I feel. Foods in bodybuilding are 90% and very scientific in the battle of competing, The diet of a bodybuilder is limited and clean, even going out to dinner would effect a bodybuilder, while I was competing, I didn't go out to dinner, I do now but with balance. Like bodybuilding being sensitive to everything that one eats, I am starting to believe that MG is that much more sensitive and everything must be considered, especially conventional meds, though, my MG is mild, on occasion I still take mestinon. Starting a new thread might have been a better Idea, I'm sorry TJ, for bringing this up.

many years ago, I took cortisone for my Addison't Disease. I had severe allergic reactions. I now take Licorice Root which is a natural cortisone instead of cortisone from pharmaceuticals.
I know lethicin granules should act like the mestinon but how much to take? And can a person with MG overdose on lethicin? I durely do not want to do that.
I have checked out the Homeopathy formulas but have not tried any because I am a cautious person. If I need to because Mestinon needs more help or quit working, then I would talk it over with my doctor before deciding. The other meds for MG hav side effects that scare me. I have other medical concerns besides MG.
you said:
"I know lethicin granules should act like the mestinon but how much to take?"
I didn't...How do you know this? Where did you hear this?
And can a person with MG overdose on lethicin? Overdose? Not specifically, but hurt themselves? Yes they can, and I have posted the effects of doing so on another thread here.
I agree that you should be careful, absolutely....
