The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Before I had the MG diagnosis and was already having problems, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and got a CPAP (breathing assistance machine). When I had MG breathing problems, I found using the CPAP (an auto one that made it easy to breath out and pushed air in) made things OK. Eventually MG symptoms disappeared as prednisone worked.
With MG, we are almost always better to go to the ER than not, especially at first when things are uncertain. Also when we take immune system lowering meds (most of the drugs used long term for MG) there are so many chances for other problems that can rapidly take over -- sooner is better than later. I had all sorts of problems that normally my immune system would have solved but I had to take antibiotics to get rid of under prednisone.

Any breathing issues, it has to be shown to the neuro too because apparently when it fails it fails real bad with limited time on hand. so its better to be careful.
