Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...
My HELP: Spirutein. It's a protein powder that I mix with milk/almond milk. It is loaded with vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Last Saturday, I skipped my second drink, and I did not eat well, because we were running errands all day. The next day-I felt awful. I was so weak and had extreme brain fog.
Also making sure you drink a lot of water will help you fell better over all.
You are right this is a different symptom than muscle weakness.
I am not saying this is a cure, it just helps me feel a lot better.
Good luck to you. I hope you have a good day soon.
I made changes one at a time and I "treat" myself at times, but I try to stick to my "diet".
I hope this helps.
On some days the exhaustion hits me like a truck. Never used to be a napper ; am now. It is a big part of MG, but a lot of physicians think that MG is strictly the "fatigueable weakness", or "ptosis". In reality, MG is a lot more than that.
Barbel is right. A healthy diet has changed my life w/ MG. Still have the disease, but the exhaustion that I USED to have has gotten much better since I've been eating more fruits, vegetables, and fish.
Take Care.
Welcome to the group. Sorry to hear you are having problems.
I had sleep apnea along with MG. When I started using a CPAP machine, some of the tiredness went away. Most of my MG was not overall fatigue, just inability to do much without almost immediately getting weak and out of breath.
If your naps leave you refreshed, probably not sleep apnea.
Since MG is often accompanied by other medical conditions, it is good to talk to your doctor before self-diagnosing and self-treating with supplements and diet changes Check your medicine side effects too.
Good luck
Yes mg can make me exhausted
And I can't believe the difference a good diet makes.
Some days I really think mg is caused by wrong foods.
I'm guessing RHanson's comments about "self-diagnosing" and "self-treating" did not take into consideration that you are certainly NOT a newbie, and have been around the MG block once or twice by now!
I hope none of us sounded preachy. Sounds like you are a thymectomy success story. The sleep apnea comments are spot-on, but my only need for a cpap machine was due to active MG.
But, we do change as we get older. Like it was said here, keep your Doctor(s) in the loop.
Any possibility your hormones are changing? I'm not a female, but I've heard that hormonal changes could indeed cause some tiredness.
Welcome!!!! Chris.
You are describing my symptoms perfectly. I wake up in the morning and the only thing on my mind is when can I get more rest/sleep because of the utter fatigue. This plays constantly in jy mind regsrdless of what i'm doing. The only time of day I feel "normal"or energized is in the evening. I've been thinking adrenal fatigue but can't find a doctor who is interested in pursuing this. I'd like to know if you make any progress in this area..
Other than this I am experiencing very mild MG symptoms. But the need for sleep is unreal.
