Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...

Before I was diagnosed with MG, I got tested for sleep apnea trying to find out why I was so weak and tired, and found I wasn't really sleeping at night, and started one of those CPAP machines. That helped a great deal.
As I was on prednisone and that can cause osteoporosis, I was tested after 6 months on prednisone and found to have it too, possibly prednisone related thought the doctor.
Further testing for possible other causes of osteoporosis found that I have primary hypogonadism (my testes were not functioning to produce testosterone) and I was very low, another cause.
I had attributed most of my problems to MG, and so hadn't really noticed low testosterone problems.
I started testosterone replacement therapy, and within a month started to feel ambitious, energetic and my tiredness mostly went away. So now, 5 years later, I am still on that, in remission from MG, and doing OK.
In July of 2018, after a test that showed moderately high testosterone levels, my endocrinologist suggested we try stopping testosterone replacement to see if without it my tests would be normal. A month later the tests were back in the extremely low level. I had lost my ambition, was tired all of the time, and felt depressed. So we started up again in August and brought the levels to the low edge of normal and it brought back ambition and energy again.
So I tell all older men, have your testosterone level checked and make sure you don't have that problem.
Oddly enough, when I started testosterone was when I had been unsuccessfully tapering prednisone. Probably coincidentally, the next taper effort was successful and I found myself in MG remission and remain that way 5 years later.
Generally endocrinologists are reluctant to start testosterone replacement, unless, like me, you test very low and it is primary. Secondary means the testes are able to produce more but not being told to do it by the hypothalmus . Primary means they can't.
Good Luck,
Russ
After reading your comment on MG and feeling very tired I have been feeling this way for over 12 Months I have only just been diagnosed with Myasthenia gravis (MG) I'm tired all day long till it's bed time I never have any let off from it .
I also suffer from dizziness again this can last all day it's pulling me down doctors tell me to rest and sleep but I have to work so not easy .
How are you copping have you been sorted out .
These symptoms stayed with me intermittently until 2019 when I was diagnosed with MG.
Today I am on LTD, I struggle with fatigue and muscle weakness. I measure my days not in energy but time. My muscles are always weak so I need to gauge day by day, how much time I can give to a particular activity before my body needs to go to sleep in which case I take a 2hr nap.
