My neuro wanted me to take Cellcept about two months ago and I had restarted my prednisone after going off of it and having a flare!  I didn't like it too much and didn't like taking two medications, not really knowing which one works, so I stopped the Cellcept.  I am down to 5 mg of prednisone a day and go back to the neuro next week.  I want to ask him if I can stay on the prednisone and go down to 2.5 mg and see how that works.  It did before, until I stopped it.


Has anyone just taken Cellcept and if you did, what were your results.  I don't like the idea of having to go once a month for blood work while taking Cellcept either.  I would prefer just to say on the Prednisone.  Hopefully I could get it down to 2 mg.  I know I can't go off of it completely, no matter how good I feel.  I learned that lesson the hard way.

Hi my husband has MG, right away his Neuro gave him 1000mg of Celcept daily then he changed Doctors to very knowledgeable ones at Kansas City, KS medical center he was having lots of symptoms and they increased it to 2000mg. Celcept daily. With prednisone and Mestinon . Now it's been two years still on 2000mg. Celcept but his prednisone is 2 1/2mg. Every other day, hopefully he will be completely off this month when we see his Doctor. Some people Celcept doesn't work for them but for him it was worth the wait. He is 70 this year, his knees are bone on bone no one wants to do operation with his MG. he gets really tired still but his knees don't help. But no other symptom. :) (I'm the caretaker!)

My mother took prednisone from age 65 until her death at age 91. She took about 10 mg/day. She had a different autoimmune disease, polymyalgia rheumatica. Without the prednisone her life would have been very miserable (and her doctors were always trying to get her to take less, which caused great pain so she chose the 10 mg). It may have shortened her life (her mother lived over 100), but she had a much better life with it.
She drank four glasses a milk each day for osteoporosis, likely got type 2 diabetes but was able to live independently at home until her last night, dying peacefully while asleep in her own bed after an active day (heart stopped).
