She told me of a friend getting on a bus with 8 unruly children and being asked if they were all hers or was this a picnic and her response was they were hers and it was no picnic. Certainly these last years for Carla were no picnic, but she held fast to her love for family, especially John and the children. She felt no one should live alone or die alone (she certainly lived out her life surrounded by those she loved). She wrote "I pray that my relationship with my children will remain close and that I will mind my P's and Q's, or that they will put me in my place." She admitted she was a worry wort (becca gave her hard time, so she says). "Scares me everyday of my life and has since Natalie was born 31 years ago today" she told me this past December. She was trying so hard to get better, especially for those grand-babies and Nick and Paige, still young and at home who had the least memory of her well. Although she shared those frustrations, she shared her pride and love and humorous anecdotes as well.
(She worried about other people, too. Which doesn't count worrying about Jeannie and me having so much fun last Thanksgiving, we would be on the 5:00 news, but does count her concerns about our health and Rosie's and Elinor's safety.)
Although her last note to me was upbeat and hopeful, they was much to concern us all. I had written some time ago that her doctors needed to wake up or some day she might not. That was a worry for Carla, too, not that she wouldn't wake up, but that her family might think she didn't want to. She wanted her family to know how hard she was trying to get well. "If I were not to wake up or be able to breathe or something, tell my family it was not my doing." She had babies to take care of and fires to put out.
She also had her faith. "I myself hope Christ comes to the earth tomorrow. The way I look at it, no matter when it is I'm not going to be ready, so the sooner the better. I miss being with him, myself." She said "Someday I'm going to hit a homerun, ok second base." She's home, now.
Carla pointed out that with depression you learn the meaning of "enjoy" that is to be "in joy" and "discourage" to "take the courage out." She brought both joy and courage to us, along with a great deal of caring. b
This is so shocking and sad, Carla had so many struggles with diagnosis, and I always felt so badly for her. I enjoyed all of her posts, she was a great and caring person. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. RIP Carla
Linda

I am sitting here, crying my eyes out.
God directed me here today, so that Ellen and I can send our deepest sympathies, to all your Families and all your Friends.
(I had a posting to submit today, but I'm not doing that now, and not for many days yet.)
Just too sad, to open these pages, after 8-months away. And the first thing I read about - is Carla's passing.
Carla was an uplifting Joy, despite all the problems she endured.
Just too sad, just too sad.
Carla is with her Christ now, a fact that hurts us all tremendously.
But take great solace, in the fact that Carla is overjoyed, to be with her God.
As others have said its a time for reflection and hold those close to us dear.
Rest in peace Carla. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to know you.
