I didn't run by my neuro, but I will on my next appointment.

I have only just been officially diagnosed but started with symptoms over 9 years ago and after my Neuro dismissed me my GP sent me to a Doctor who liked unusual cases....and treatments - I ended up having to inject myself every other day with B12 on her instructions and was having the amount/dose that would normally be used to treat pernicious anemia every 3 months every 2 days!!! I was assured that the body does not store B12 beyond what it needs and that there was no danger. I did this for 2-3 years with no ill-effects and was even allowed to continue throughout my first pregnancy. I know the B12 injections are used alot for anemia type conditions and celebrities use them to boost their systems and combat fatigue. My symptoms did gradually go into remission - I'm not sure I attribute that to the B12 but it certainly did no harm! I actually think that 2 pregnancies very close together (unplanned, happy mistakes!) actually knocked the MG out for 3 years but my symptoms had become intermittent and mild before I fell pregnant.
I hope this helps - Good Luck :)

My neuro checks vitamin levels routinely for our MG patient's. Mainly because autoimmune diseases tend to run in multiples as Bweeds said, so things like pernicious anemia need to be ruled in or out. We actually give B12 injections to patients in the office and it is the most effective method of absorption. The pills are not metalized as well as the injections but if the levels aren't too low it's possible that the pills would do the trick. Having said that, we use the same regiment as the one that was recommended for you. Always talk to your neuro about new medications even if it's "just a vitamin", but I think it's a pretty safe one myself. I hope that the B12 gives you a little more pep in your step. Have a good weekend all!!

Thank you so much for your replies I will call my neuro's office on Monday and just make sure its o.k. I think you are all very wise in suggesting that we run everything by them.
I think I am probably preaching to the choir, but how wonderful is it that when we have something new come up we can post it here and get such wonderful responses from those with experience?
I am so grateful.
