Keep your appointment and be blessed that you have one. Blood work is not the defining factor in a diagnosis. It simply helps with diagnosis.
I know that feeling when you question yourself because tests are negative and doctors mistakenly believe that they must be positive or you don't have the disease.
Hang in there and push forward in getting your diagnosis.

I would recommend you keep the appointment at Mayo, it never hurts to get a second opinion. Also, beware of any doctor to is glued to test results as their only means of diagnosis. Many test have a questionable result percentage and although they serve as a great guide they are not the definable answer to all things.

It would be interesting to know if they interpreted the results locally or how it was done. In my case, the MG tests were sent to the Mayo clinic for processing. The main test came back showing MG, and the Musk test was negative. After hearing some of these stories I am so thankful that the first time I went to UVM medical center I left with an initial diagnosis, a prescription for mestinon, and the blood tests were all performed. That was just about 6 months ago, and today I am almost tapered off prednisone, and the cellcept appears to be helping. I can't imagine living months the way I felt the first week or so.

Hi Red, Please read this over, and over. ... Many cases are diagnosed not on the basis of testing, but on the basis of symptoms, and the reaction to some very simple procedures: 1) The ice pack test, which you have already done and have had results consistent with a diagnosis of MG. 2) A trial dose of Mestinon. If Mestinon alleviates your symptoms it is HIGHLY LIKELY that you have either MG, or LEMS. MG is far more common than LEMS. Can't believe you haven't been prescribed a trial dose of Mestinon, considering the nature of your symptoms. Did any of the neuros you have seen ever hear of the ice pack test?? Did you make it clear that the ice pack test relieved your ptosis(drooped eyelid)?.......A great deal of your anxiety may be dispelled if you were to begin educating yourself as much as possible about MG. .......If I were you I would definitely keep that appointment at Mayo... Mayo is known for success in diagnosing difficult conditions, so going there should help with whatever is wrong. Good Luck

I agree with everyone else. Keep your appt at Mayo. Educate yourself. Refuse to be minimized or treated trivially. Insist on being heard. I am sereonegative but responded to the ice pack test and to Mestinon so markedly that even my reluctant-to-diagnose neuro diagnosed me. Now, I've had a nerve stimulation test that confirmed it, as well. If I had not found this forum and devoured it, I would have needed anti-anxiety meds to cope with the stress of the mystery illness that slammed into me, not to mention the emotional strain of not being able to breathe but not being able to convince anyone that I was struggling. Keep fighting for yourself and stay in touch!

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement! After posting this, I got up & stopped feeling sorry for myself. I am in the process of gathering all my records to take with me. I have read & I know many test can be negative but many feel I am to fixated & I've been told I need to stop reading that stuff. In the beginning when the Neuro Opthalmologist thought it was MG I called the foundation & they said read everything I can get my hands on which I have been doing. When struggling with symptoms it makes it even easier to devour the information. Just as I did this site, I read for a long time before I was brave enough to join. Especially without a diagnosis. But here I am & I am so thankful! I'll keep you informed as I know info. Even if it would turn out to be a different diagnosis you all have been so great!
