RELIEF that I was not going nuts!!!!!!!! Then anger to some degree and then after a short time thought "oh what the hell" get on with life, you can walk down the road and get hit by a bus.

I got dxed and took a cab to the Library to read what the heck MS was? Better then the spine cancer that I was worried about. I wish I could have a miracle and get better!

I think everyone reacts in their own time and own way. I knew tons about MS before my dx b/c I used to work at the National MS Society. I kind of figured that was what I had, but everyone kept telling me I was a hypochondria since I worked at the NMMS. When I got my dx I was with my Mom, and I looked at her, burst out laughing and said, "Told you so!" It was just an automatic response; I was happy it wasn't a brain tumor. It's been 11 months since my dx, and at first, I was OK with it and very blase. But the last few months it has made me very angry and upset. I now see a therapist to help deal with the dx, and it seems to be working.

Larry, yep I figured there is a lot worse that could have been wrong. Firstly my symptons were indicative of ovarian cancer so believe me I was relieved that it was not that.

At the end of the day, even my staggery days.........grin.........I figure that I could be a lot lot worse and life is too damned short to wallow so I get out and get on with it. Not a martyr by any means, just a practical person who does not like to be told that I 'cannot' or 'should not' do this because of a 'disease'.

It is my life and I will only ever have it once.

Quite honestly, by the time I was diagnosed, I felt releived. After years of not knowing, getting tested, leaving the work force, it was good to know WHY.
For years CFS was the only explanation.
It has now been more than 25yrs for me & I've stayed in remission for the last 8. Doing ok, I guess.

When we heard the words, it was disbelief; our only experience with MS was with a very close friend of mine and it wasn't a positive experience to say the least (my friend is in a long term care facility, can't transfer, eyesight has deteriorated drastically, and overall, she's very depressed and down on her luck; I've been there for her in many ways (more than one can imagine); and my family's knowledge of MS was just that one experience; so it was tough. We're over the shock and disbelief; and now take one day at a time; and do what we can.

Intially I was numb.(no pun intended) I really didn't know much about MS, other than a girl I knew had it when I was about 18. The dr. told me over the phone, which I thought at the time was a bit insensitive. I also figuted for any type diagnosis they bring you in and tell you in person. Plus I was at work, I didn't know what to do with myself. But I gathered all the info I could about it, and now I'm so glad to just know what had been causing all of my symptoms for so long. I watch mystery diagnosis on discovery health, and I can relate so much with those people. I also get angry at the medical community for just dismissing this patients and making them feel like their crazy.

oh man when I was told I had ms I was by myself, 22 and freaked out. I was bawlin gmy eyes out. They left me alone for about 20 mins I calmed and went to pick up my mris scans to take to the neuro, started bawling while asking for my mri scans. Then got to my car called my mom and bawled again as I told her and she said oh no kimmy no as she cried. it has been a terribly hard deal for me. I am only 23, I have done nothing in life yet. I have no kids no husband and now it seems no life. Things have gotten a bit better mentally in the past year but it is still hard. Hard to see my friends living their life and doing things I just cant. I get tired easily so I often go home early, I dont drink as it makes my ms act up. The meds all seem to not be good for prego women so I am scared to take them. It is one big scary mess for me still, not sure when my fear anger and sadness will pass.
