Come on people, they treat the symptom and not the cause! Lol!
This way they keep the drug companies profits high so the doctors get the kick-backs from them. If they treated the cause, we wouldn't need their drugs!!!
I have been thru so many crappy doctors over the 19 years of back problems it would make people sick! I'm now on #3 for ms, but I must say, I haven't had any dx like you all have!
I had a neurologist tell me to put my cane down and walk normal! I'm 6'1" and 285, he was 5'7" and 155. He saw the rage come over my face so he ran out of the room scared shitless. He then put in his report I got very angry and offended him by my out-burst. He is lucky I couldn't catch him!

I was told that I was just stressed about my health problems, that is why all of this was going on. Brings back the what came first the chicken or the egg joke. So they told me take their "happy pills" and all should go away. NOTTT!!! Problems are still here, but that neuro is not!

In the early days of my seizure disorder I saw a young intern at a Seizure Clinic in Seattle. I had been dx'd already and was on seisure medication, but I was there for a check-up. He was a neurologist, a young and shinny one. After he review my thick file he looked at me and smiled. My huband and I glanced at each uncertain about what was coming. The he said with a very serious face, ".Cathy you don't have Epilepsy......you have......"Exploding Head Syndrome." I starred at this young man and all I could picture was a Gary Larson cartoon with people walking down the street with their heads exploding. Both my husband(ex now) and I started laughing. The poor guy said no I am serious. Well, we left him that day snickering, teasing about Dougie Houser and his Exploding Head Syndrome. This poor guy became a running joke at our house. Then years later I had a light bulb come on and I looked up Exploding Head Syndrome and sure enough it exists as a real diagnosis. And all this time we just thought this guy was unhinged. But who would name a medical problem Exploding Head Syndrome ???? Who knew?? LOL. So this was one of my funniest and the kid was wrong in the end anyway, I do have Epilepsy.

My Dr. Stupid stories are just too numerous. I may write a book. Let me just repeat a joke. What do they call the lowest ranking med student in his graduating class?? Doctor..

My first symptom was jerking legs; 2 months later I had double vision. Went to the ophthalmologist, saw my PCP the same day, he knew about both symptoms (which I thought were neurological) and he said I had restless legs syndrome. Requip didn't touch it so he added Sinemet. I didn't know to put the two symptoms together and my PCP didn't pick up on it.

A year later I had bladder issues; a year later I had problems with small motor control; a year later he dxd me with dropped foot syndrome. Still never put everything together and I didn't know that they were all related.

He sent me to a neuro who ran all the tests, nerve conduction, EMG, even a $500 blood test for HNPP - hereditary neuropathy with pressure palsies. Sent me for MRI of back, and ultrasound of my legs to check blood flow to my legs. Everything was normal.

He even told me that he ruled out MS because I didn't have any eye pain. He also said that my MRI was normal. He sent to PT which I did for 2 months, 3x/week, I didn't see any results, got depressed and quit PT. Neuro said there wasn't anything more he could do for me.

Was talking to an acquaintance who said my neuro didn't have a very good reputation, and gave me the name of her neuro at a well-respected teaching hospital. Saw him in May 2009, he saw "white flashes" on the very same MRI that my first neuro had said was normal, had MRI's with and without contrast on June 12, had spinal tap on August 11, was dxd August 19, 2009.

He told me when I saw him in July that he wanted to do a spinal tap and I am so fortunate that he told me what he suspected, so when he called me with the news I wasn't totally in shock.

Last year I couldn't control my eye's fluttering and had a bad case of Vertigo, speach was slurring and i couldn't write. The doctor told me i was having patty mall seizures, he gave me a pill to take for 8wks and said you'll be just fine.

CW!!!! I HAVE EXPLODING HEAD SYNDROME!!!! OMG!!! I NEVER KNEW THAT'S WHAT IT WAS OR THAT IT'S A REAL DIAGNOSIS! BEING FUNNY, SILLY & SERIOUS HERE!?

NOW THAT I'VE READ THAT I DO HAVE THAT & HYPNIC JERK TOO! I ESP.... HAVE PROBLEMS WITH HYPNIC JERK! I HATE IT!!!

I'm so glad I started this thread and we have all had a chance to vent and a reason to smile. I think the winner for the most stupid diagnosis has to go to....Exploding Head Syndrome. Priceless!

My doctor told my ROTATING eyes were due to the work I was doing at the time. I worked with scales weighing chemicals for perfume compositions. So my eyes just need to rest plus I needed to wear an eye patch. MS was shortly diagnosed when other things started happening.

Seems stupid now but I bought the doc's explanation.

When my GP saw my eyes darting back and forth she said "Wow! Look at 'em go!" and told me I had an inner ear infection and to take Antivert. Huh? Needless to say I changed GP's.
