We were watching a Christmas movie tonight and I didnt laugh at all while my son and husband were rolling on the flor laughing at the antics of the movie. I kept saing that I don't tink the sceens were funny, and they both old me that I would have been laughing 8 years ago (before MS was the intent). I wonder if MS has robbed me of my personality too?
My brain just doesn't work the same as it did before MS and it is noticeable to those aroud me.
I don't know where my mind wandered off to but it goes there frequently now. I can't seem to follow a who done it any more on TV. It is now a who done what. I can't follow the plot and by the end of the show, I don't recognize the characters from the beginning of the show. If I doze off even for just 5 minutes, when I wake up, it's as if I had just turned the show on and everything is new. Or even after a commercial, I sometimes can't remember anything that came before. Just that little bit of interruption makes my mind a blank for a while.
This is pretty tough for someone who used to have a photographic memory or could read over a contract of 25+ pages once then review in my sleep and wake up in the middle of the night and know exactly which line needed an addendum added.
I go for another MRI in 2 weeks. I wonder how many fish they'll see swimming in the old fishbowl this time.
Sounds really medical!
However, when I told my adult children that I may start forgetting things and/or repeating myself they just laughed and said I always did that!
When I get words wrong or say the wrong thing, if I realise it I say "oops another brain fart" & try to laugh it off as much as possible. It really p's me off though.
Another trick is to ask someone to repeat back what you said (in their words even) & then often can say "oh no meant xyz" or whatever. That works well too.
I also make the mistakes when I write in my journal. I try to keep writing letters to friends because it helps me ...my own type of therapy, I suppose. But, I know that when I am writing sometimes the "letters" get dropped out of words. Like, if I were to try to write thank you", I may sometimes write "thnk ou". I do go back and re-read what I write, but, I know that my brain has many "hic cups"...I just hope it doesn't worsen quickly. No fun.So many things we deal with. People without ms have no idea!
Something says I am going to pay for this comment. :)
I was going to buy more, but I forgot ... ;^) lol
Actually the store was out, but I finally got some more and my memory is slightly better. I too put my glasses, purse, keys, etc, in the same place every time, so I don't have to remember. My kids think I have OCD - or maybe I'm becoming my mother - "A place for everything, and everything in its place." Don't know which is worse.
I hope someone else appreciates my humor. I'm having fun with this!
