Sorry you had to endure that, maybe you should have run over their feet and when she jumped up and down in pain, said "These able bodied people get to jump up and down , unaided, it's just not fair" :)

Those people are asshOles, not to worry, their day will come, until then MAY THE FLEAS OF A 10000 camels descend upon their lower regions and their arms grow too short to scratch.. lol

truly, these women are extremely ignorant. if they are lucky they might have an experience that opens their eyes and hearts. your measured response might help, you never know.

i'd like to share a couple of experiences that happened to me, to give you a broader view. i have the sort of ms that confuses people. i walk pretty well much of the time. i have a handicapped license plate because sometimes i can hardly make it. i didn't want to get that license plate and i didn't want to put it on my car, but it meant i could go to the store by myself on a medium bad day.

the very first time i pulled into a handicapped parking space and got out of my car, another driver, older woman, started yelling at me that i was using someone else's handicapped tag to steal her designated spot. i was 36 years old, she was about 70. i told her that it was my own tag, that i needed it at the moment. she called me a liar. i told her i would go home without my groceries, just get back in the car and go, if she thought she needed that spot more than me. she drove off in a huff. at that point, i was so exhausted that i went home anyways.

moral of that: don't assume anything when you see someone with the tag. i hear so much complaining and suspicion about it, and it's usually from other people who have a tag.

here's my other story. i was working as an advocate for the disabled, with an all-disabled staff. i went to a meeting out of the office with my coworker. he drove. it was a hot day and he knew that i was fatigued and weak. instead of dropping me off at the door of the building we were going to, he passed it to look for parking. i asked him to drop me off and he told me to suck it up. which i did. what more could i do? he was the one who had the wheelchair.

moral of that one: anyone can be an a*hole. you can try to educate people, but if they don't want it they won't get it.

You can't fix stupid!!!!!! Our society is getting more and more rude. What happened to mannners and concern for people who are disabled????????

So sorry you had to deal with that. I had an old lady say something along the same lines once. I was using the handicap stall in the bathroom and just becuase she is old and I am young, she got all bent out of shape and said that I shoud use the regular stall, wheelscahir lady!!?? She was walking just fine! I told her to take her skinny healthy walking ass to the regular stall, being old does not mean that she has the right to the handicap stall. I know exactly how you feel, really we WANT to be this way right!!?? My sister was this way as well, she bacicly said I should not "burden" other people with my "problem", that is why she is no longer in my life.

Keep your chin up, this kind of thing normally has a way of biting people like that in the butt.

I can totally relate. I work in an office of ignorant aholes. One of the girls I work with judges people by how they look physically. She thinks they should all have jobs. She judged this man who sits at the corner and begs for change. She said he looks strong and healthy, he should be working. I, on the other hand, look at people and wonder what ailment afflicts them. I wonder if that same man has a mental disorder, maybe he has MS and you can't see that he can't walk well or talk. I think that unless people walk a mile in my shoes, they aren't going to know how it feels to be disabled.
I always feel bad when I use my handicap placard to park. I wonder what comments are going to come out of people's mouths. I also know about using the handicap stall in the restrooms. I like the grab bars in them as I have trouble getting to my feet sometimes, when I can walk. The older ladies I work with are always rushing in to use it before I can get there. I talked with EEOC about the discrimination I feel at work because of my disability. They told me they only handle sexual or racial discrimination cases. I guess I need to contact the ADA.

Some health care place was over here after my hospitalization. They were admiring my recliner which stands you up.

I told them that they can have the damn recliner AND THE DISEASE THAT GOES WITH IT!

That shut them up pretty fast!

Shame of these people that are so very ignorant and stupid!

Next time that happens, just ask them:

If we could trade postions, would you trade with me?!!!!

I'll gladly take your body and your ability to walk to the parking spot farther away -- you can have my handicapped placard RIGHT NOW!!!

i gave two examples of handicapped people with no compassion. this thread is upsetting to me because there is so much judgment, anger, revenge being expressed. look for the mote in your own eye. how harshly are you judging people who want to pee in a bigger stall? what problems might they have? what struggles might make a person resentful of someone who has the help of a wheelchair? to answer ignorance with hate doesn't help anyone.

It isn't the younger crowd that seems to give me the "look" but those my age and older. I finally asked a gf that is good with card marking/scrapbooking to make me some signs. One says "It;s MS Girlfriend" and at the bottom it says "Enjoying the ride". She has cute borders and pictures on them. She completed them with curly ribbon to hang on my wheelchair or scooter or in the back window of our car. It stops a lot of it.

I found it so hurtful...In fact, truth be known, there were times when I wanted to run some over with the motor carts in stores...lol...I could see them watching me and talking...Just so hurtful.

I feel discriminated as a male, I get none of this.

I would like for some one to start it up with me-- the gloves would come off. Now I think I could have alot of fun with someone that had the nerve to say something like that in my presence.

I would have went off on her and caused a scene im sure, what an old bitch! people are unbelievably rude!

oooooim mad just reading that dumb $&@ people. Ya I love it my wife helps me to bath room. Also missing my sons baseball games cause heat. Oh ya even better when ac broke and no money to fix it. Ignorant people get theirs.

Maybe I'm just a hopeless grump, but it seems to me that old people are either really good or really bad. Pity their selfishness!

That lady should have known better, her being older I would think she was raised not to act like that.... She was just mad she didn't have a nice set of wheels for a big strong man to ride her around in. *smile*
