I was on copaxone for awhile and had similar experiences. Eventually I started getting the "necrosis" which is where the fat underneath would die and it looked pretty bad. For me, It wasn't worth it and I switched off. It's worth sticking it out for awhile to see if you can make it work for you, but if you can't, it's better to ask your doctor if there are other options. Just my thoughts.

I was on copaxone for a year and never had any major problems. ike so many, the thigh( upper leg) is the one that would hurt afterwards and leave small bruising. I itched on the waist area, for a short time. I prefer the arms or stomach also. Never heard of anyone bruising like that. I have complete faith in Shared Solutions nurses.

thank you to each of you who gave me encouragement here. I did talk with the Shared Solutions nurses, and staff, and after trying several things, they agreed that I ought to talk with my doctor and see if there was another possible choice of action.

At this time, I have stopped the Copaxone. I am currently not on any DMD's. I will see what happens now, for the next 3 months. She (the dr.) said, just wait it out, and come back in 3 months.
She did say she could put me on the Steroid infusion, but, I didn't really want to do that either. So, "nothing" for now. But, no more bruises, and huge welts! I am glad to have stopped it. I still have sites that show the large red welt area, from 2 - 3 weeks back. (lg = 3"). So, I am relieved to be off of Copaxone for now.

I had to go off of Copaxone because of the pain. I'm also a diabetic, so my injection sites are really limited. I felt like it was a wasp sting that was punched repeatedly afterwards, and they never stopped hurting until about a month after I stopped treatment. How much fat are you injecting into? I know if it got into the muscle I would be practically rolling on the ground in pain, and it would bruise up. Good luck Sherizi! I hope you do well.

Hi, I have been on copaxone for about ten years. I only inject on the inner thighs as I get itchy welts and the thighs are the only area that is tolerable. I have tons of bruising and it appears to be permanent. I wear longer shorts in the summer and a bathing suit with a skirt. It is not so bad and it is better than the alternative, relapses. Good luck!

Don't tell your MD that I am sharing my suggestion. I was on copaxone myself and I am also a nurse. I really didn't want to bruise all over and I figured that my butt was the biggest cushion on my body, so why not give them all there. I did speak to the Nurse Practioner and told her what I was up to. I'm now using Rebiff and again, my BUTT is my cushion. You must be careful to massage your injections site if copaxone is suggesting that. I don't remember now that I'm not on it, but Rebiff indicates "massage injection site for 2 minutes" which I do. Remember, you didn't hear it from me, but that's what works for me and I've been doing it for years.

I have been on Copaxone for 1 year as of next week. I noticed bruises and welts initially, but I played around with the depths on the auto inject pen and now it's actually not bad. I heat the site, rub the area after injecting, and sometimes ice it. Good luck! Hang in there! I'd rather be on Copxone and have welts/bruising versus being on something that can damage other things like my kidneys for example

I've been on Avonex, which is nearly the same thing but only injected once a week. I have used the syringes and currently on the pen but I get bruises nevertheless. I've tried both my arms and thighs and it doesn't seem to matter where I inject I will undoubtedly get a bruise there. People have recommended icing the area before and after to discourage bruising but honestly I'm a bit too lazy to do that. Hahaha

I had the same problems for about 2-3 months after I started. I lowered the depth setting on the outside of my thighs and that helped but I think that it helped but it seems the longer I'm on this stuff the less the side effects. The nurse with Shared solutions also told me to sit when I do it and make my thigh look as fat as possible. That sounds weird but I sit down and turn my foot outwards and that has helped.
