The key seems to be start low and work up on the dose to avoid side effects.
I made the mistake of staying on one of these just because I was desperate for even a little help. The side effects made my over all health worse.
These drugs are addictive in the sense that there are withdrawal symptoms. It took me months to taper off. I think this is not really called a drug abuse problem as there is not a street value but to me withdrawal is withdrawal.
If they don't work that well, question their usage with your prescriber before you start taking them long term.
Each of these works for some and not others. Prozac is the most popular and first of this type of drug. I couldn't tolerate that drug either - gave me severe insomnia. But guess who in the family is taking Prozac? My cat for Pica and wool sucking disorders!! It's helped her anxiety.
