This breaks my heart!!! MS (or even MD)...is hard enough to live with...without having to put up with bullying from smartalic kids!!! Seems as though this problem is getting worse with every generation! :(

So sad! It is a shame that there seems to be so much bullying today. I know that there has always been bullying, but it seems to be worse with the internet and other technology like cell phones.

This is such a sickening story. Mitchell sounds like he was an amazing boy and such a hard worker. May he rest in peace.

Bullying does seem like it's getting worse - or maybe we're just hearing more about it? Perhaps the internet makes it worse as well, giving those who bully additional ways in which to taunt and mock someone.

My younger cousin (14) just lost a classmate a few days ago. The poor girl hanged herself because she was being bullied. My boyfriend's daughter was also bullied - both at school AND on facebook; thank goodness she was able to change schools.

This is so sad. I have no words for this. :(

What a horrible tragedy. I pray for this boys parents and family, and how this is another wake up call to the world that any form of bullying must be stopped immediately!

Within the last week or two, there was a story similar about a young boy in the States who took his own life due to the builying he endured. He was very active in a young people's group to stop bullying, he was in therapy, and to his parents seemed to be handling it all very well. But the bullying just wouldn't stop and he could not take it any longer and too he committed suicide. There are no words for such a story, but I know society must take a stronger stand on this treatment amongst our adolescents. My heart goes out to every young person subject to the ridicule of bullying.

I think it's the track this world is on. The "no boundaries," "no church," "no limits" in raising our children. All of this starts at home. Unfortunately, we probably need mentors at every stage of life, especially in the parenthood stage.

When I say "church" and I know not everyone is a church goer - but if not "church," per se, then some guidelines about what makes a decent human being.

Just some thoughts. There has to be some opportunity for positive changes in all of the heartbreaking events that go on.

Anyone wonder how much time these children who take their lives are leflt on their own, to their own devices? Not to blame anyone but I do think and have heard that too much solitude is not good for anyone, especially young people who need guidance.

this scares me to death...my 9 yr old son has bi-polar and adhd...he is also being bullied..he also has said "im going to kill myself"..he is in therapy and im very attentive to him...he has a strong faith in God and a relationship with him...even so...its disturbing to hear my son utter those words,i hugged him and told him nothing is worth killing yourself,you leave behind ones who love you to be very heart broken..i encourage him daily,i tell him how proud i am to be his mom,how proud i am of who he is...i try my best to help him feel loved and respected....he has even told me that he knows i love and respect him....God be with the family of the kids who take thier lifes...and be with parents of kids being bullied....im crying now...this touches home to much for me

At one time Bullies were the exception,now they seem to have a greater influence with our young people ,than ever before.
. The more "sophisticated" our world becomes, the more shallow we are becoming.. We're teaching life is about conforming to Society,and that only certain forms of beauty,and lifestyles are acceptable.
Somewhere in teaching our kids to become successful,and power driven, we have forgotten about showing and teaching compassion,understanding and acceptance of those that are different.Whether by looks ,actions and beliefs,
There is a complete lack of tolerance.We really need to take a good look at ourselves,and the things we honestly take a stand on .
Our young people are a reflection of ourselves. We all could benefit from a good ,long look in the mirror..,and really see what we are reflecting.
I am so sorry for the loss of these young lives. Such tragedies should never happen. My heart and prayers go out to the loved ones of these young lives that have been lost.

I looked up the child's obituary and it was Muscular Dystrophy that he suffered from. Unfortunately in today's society children on taught to judge a person only by his or her cover and not be what they actually have to offer. Mitchell was a very driven little boy, that only wanted to be able to live as he could and his bully will probably never understand what a struggle it was for Mitchell to walk home every day being ridiculed for something he could not control. SHAME TO ALL PARENTS THAT TEACH CHILDREN THAT THE WAY THEY LOOK IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE WAY THEY THINK, SPEAK AND TREAT OTHERS.

I agree with Lorrie! For the BULLIES: Where do they even get that it is ok for them to torment ANYONE to ANY extreme??? And don't tell me no one knew it was going on! And if they didn't know..shame on them because they should have!!! Computers in kid's bedrooms, computers on 11 year olds phones ( just an example) seriously??? Not in my house! It's out in the open..and damn straight I walk by and look. I spy. I will always spy. Since church, the Pledge of allegiance, prayer has been taken out of schools...IN MY OPINION it's gotten BAD. No morals. No guidance. I'm right there with you Lorrie. Very touchy topic with me. MUCH lazy parenting that gos on in this world as well. AGAIN, just MY OPINION.

So heart wrenching, I just can't even fathom his pain....child hood bullying has got to stop. Well I guess bullying all around, but it's even harder for a child to take. My prayers go out to that precious child.
