Pain Management Doctor's Drug Test
lchoppel
Hi, I see a PMD on a monthly basis. This upcoming month, I am seeing the actual doctor in stead of the monthly visits with the PA. Usually during this time the doctor gives me a drug test. I know the test is to basically see if I am taking my meds at the level prescribed. But I also wonder, will the doctor check for other drugs in my system?
Lately my pain has been off the charts and I have resorted to smoking pot to help. It does help alot. However, will my PMD know that I've been smoking when I get my pee test done? Has anyone's PMD ever told them that if they continue to use non-prescribed pain medication such as pot, that they will no longer support them as a patient? Any insight to the drug testing process by the PMD would be appreciated.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

I, too smoke after my son goes to bed for pain relief and to get my muscles to relax. I quit when I became pregnant, but started up again after being Dx'd and it really helped! I wouldn't think they wouldn't support you any longer (probably just give you a talking to if they found out), but all doctors are different.
The safest bet is to either flush out your system for a week before the test or to buy the cover-up found at local smoke shops to drink 4 hours before the test. Either way, I wish you the best of luck! Hopefully the remaining states will get it together and legalize something that is natural and actually helps for chronic pain!
Many dr's know that it works but can't do anything about it. Stay clean for a week or so and it probably won't show up. Good luck!
It's just such a pain that if I am doing illegal drugs then I can't get the legal pain medication. That is what I'm afraid of, because I smoked pot that the doctor will take away my pain meds. Since I knew they were testing for it on the day of the exam, I confessed to the doctor ahead of the test results. Thats when he mentioned this Marinol medication and told me to discuss it with my neuro. When I had an appt. with my neuro, I also told him I smoked pot and what the pms doctor told me. I just wanted everyone to know that I had smoked pot, because the treatments that they are providing for me are not working! I can't take anymore pain medication than I am currently taking. I just hate taking all these medications. sorry this is so long, and thanks for asking.
I do know how unbearable pain can be. Although I've only had the calve lock ups or spacticity, I've been having the knee pain on occasion in the weaker leg. It's a feeling as if it's going to crack or pop or something but when it doesn't, it just hurts badly - scary. It's always intermitent though so I guess I've been lucky so far.
This marinol sounds like it's worth a shot for you, Lynne and Punky.
Lchoppel I hope you can find something that helps you. At least a good PMD and Neuro are great steps in a better direction to making this happen.
Best wishes,
