Hello,
I am new to this group and was hoping to introduce myself....
On June 27, 2009 my brother and my boyfriend forced me to the emergency room. My blood pressure was 235/122... no fever, but my legs had swollen to the point that my shoe cut my foot....
They started testing and could not find anything wrong other than the high blood pressure.... they admitted me and put me on some diuretics and blood pressure medicine. Three days later the Dr. told me that they were going to release me to go home the next morning... as bad as I wanted to go home, I felt like I spent all that money with no diagnosis.... I said as much and the next thing I knew the hospital administrator was in my room.... she advised that I let the Infectious Disease Dr. run some tests. They did a series of test including full body CT scans and an two MRI's with and without contrast.... about 12 hours after the MRI the Dr. came in and told me that I have Osteomyelitis in my spinal cord under the L5&6 vertebra, I had no idea what that was... luckily I had my laptop there and researched it... talk about scared. The next day the Dr. came in and I asked him how serious this was, he told me that if I had not started treatment, that I would have possibly been dead in a week. (Please remember the hospitalist was going to send me home).. Anyway, I went through 10 days of in hospital Vancomycin infusions, then was sent home with 30 days of Zyvox ($5,000, wow).... After about three and half weeks on the Zyvox, I fell and was loosing the use of my legs... when I fell I was on the phone with a friend, she came rushing over and we called the ID Dr. He told me to go the ER and he will admit me.... The did another MRI with contrast and saw that the infection had grown... that is when the diagnosed it as MRSA. The antibiotics were not working... they kept me in for three days with the Vancomycin did an MRI and it wasn't significant amount of shrinkage, but there was some, so now I am at home with a pic line and two vanco infusions a day, with heparin and saline pushes! I should be a Dr. by the time I am done with this..
I read another post here where someone stated that they are afraid that they will not reach their 40th birthday..... I too feel as though I am dying.. I have no energy and all I can do is sleep!
I'm scared!
Thanks for listening!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I have had MRSA a little over 4 yrs and it is a nightmare I can tell you that..I have never truely bounced back from mine but had other problems too...So only GOd knows if you will or not..
Did they culture it to find out that it is for sure MRSA? SO many times this doesn't happen and there are over 100 different strains so you need the culture to make sure the treatment is working..
I am 48yrs old..and know that MRSA might not be what I die of but I will die with it..At this point I have developed allergies to the ZYvox which was about the last medicine I could take..
I have it in my lungs on my skin primarily most places with new boils regularly..It is draining somedays all I manage to do is lay and type..
The medicines alone take so much out of you..I wish you God Speed with this..Keep us posted how your doing..
God Bless you and nice to meet cha..!!!
