I just found out that 13 weeks of pregnancy being the time when the risk of miscarriage goes down, is a complete myth. My doctor just told me that after you hear a heartbeat for the first time, your risk of miscarriage decreases greatly. She said the myth that it was the 13 week mark started b/c most doctors didnt listen for a heartbeat until around 12 weeks and so people assumed that after 12 weeks was when you could rest easy. While I know that anything can happen at any point, it does kind of ease my mind to know at least I have a less than 2 percent chance of miscarriage starting as early as 6 weeks depending upon when I have my first appointment to hear the heartbeat, and I dont have to wait till 13 weeks to breathe a little easier. I know this will comfort me the next time I get pregnant.
Did anyone else know this? b/c it came as a shock to me.
