I am curious how much weight people have lost on Topamax.

I was on a very low dose and after 7 months had to go off it because:
1. It didn't help my migraines at all
2. I lost 16 pounds and was down to 122 lbs. and was down to size 6.

I am on Topamax and it used as a preventative and I use it in conjunction with the Botox for Migraines.

I have lost weight while on it and that was not a consideration for being put on it. My migraines were often and fierce and getting them under control was the consideration.

I've been on it for years. Unfortunately, it hasn't had that effect for me. I've never been overweight, but it would be nice to not have to worry about what I have to eat all the time.

Tompomax never worked for me and it did take away my appetitie! Which was funny cause it made me so lethargic, all I did was lay around and sleep with headaches AND lose weight. I had to get off it.

My doctor would not prescribe it for me because of weight loss is a common side effect. I would not mind losing a few pounds, but when on a different med (low dose beta blocker) that is working. Yeah!

Ecca, it's funny that you stated how tired Topamax made you. I know that is a common side effect. It had the opposite effect on me. I would take it at night, and all of a sudden I would be wide awake. It was horrible. So I had to start taking it in the morning.

It's funny how medicine affects people differently.

I lost 20 pounds when I started taking a certain high dose of Topamax.

I have/had severe migraines for the past 5+ years, and I cannot go off Topamax (my Doctors said, I would be on Disability without it). I also get BOTOX injections.

I believe, Topamax helps me stay 124 pounds, because I eat what I want, and currently, I am not on an exercise program.
I'm 44 yrs. old, 5'7 in height, and just began perimenopause last summer.

When I was on tompax I did lose weight. I liked it for that reason, I did get off of it because the side affects were really getting to me. I don't do well with medication. But yes, it did make lose weight and my sister was on it and it made her lose weight as well. And it did not help my migraines at all. I can't remember how much weight I lost but I think it was about 15 lbs.

I lost 62 pounds that I needed to lose and it worked great to prevent headaches, but after several months it quit working altogether. I was taking 600mg/day.

I was put on Topamax years ago to treat nerve pain in both of my legs. Even though I am a migraine sufferer, the topamax was not prescribed for that. After taking it for a few short months, I ended up losing 50 lbs, which was awesome because I had gained alot of weight due to inactivity (I am perm. disabled). I kept the weight off for several years, however, I eventually gained 20 of it back. I no longer take the Topamax because it became to expensive for me, so I take Gabapentin in it's place.
