Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
There are so many medications for the prevention of migraine, topamax is not the only drug out there. That may be the one they want to start with, but it certainly isn't the only one. So if for some reason it doesn't work for you or you don't like it, you can always try something else. And if your doctor doesn't give you an alternative, then you need to find a different doctor. Some people need a cocktail of medications. I take topamax, but I also need a few other preventatives along with it. So I do hope you find a regime that works for you.
