Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

Exercise and Migraines

Everytime I now try to exercise anymore than just walking it leads to days of migraines. So I have given up on trying to exercise. Anyone else get migraines if they try to exercise? 


I started nurotriptalin but it makes me constipated, difficulty urinating and dry mouth. So I got off of it. I can’t keep taking Rizatriptan and Imitrex frequently because they are raising my blood pressure. Hopefully by avoiding exercise I’ll get less.


i see a acupuncturist but even on his “special diet” plan I’m still getting migraines. I’m going to try a different acupuncturist/chiro and see what he says. But my MRI came back normal.

Have you tried Topomax as a preventative medication? I have Cluster Migraines and a Seizure Disorder and I've used Topomax for 13 years now with pretty good success rate. My migraines can last up to 13 days when they hit, so a preventative medication is crucial for me.

I use Imitrex and Tordal at onset. My migraine triggers are Pollen/Grass Allergies and rapid changes in Barometric Pressure.

I also keep a caffeine free diet because caffeine is also something I use with the Imitrex/Tordal combo at onset.

Have you seen a Neurologist-Headache Specialist, they generally know more about Migraines/Migraine control and prevention than hollistic Dr.'s.

Uh stopped my preventative meds. Too many side affects. If I get non-stop migraines again I’ll look for another med to try. So far I seem to be okay with walking and yoga a few times a week as long as I spread them out. I’m trying to lose weight and see if that plays as a factor of migraines.

I get one if i sweat to much. So if I exercise I have to quit once I start sweating. Heat is a trigger for me. So in a day like today with the feels like temps being over 100 I ended up with one just from being outside for half an hour. Luckily I caught it early enough for meds to work their magic.

I wanted to try running as exercise and I think that triggered a migraine a few days later. (I only ran for five mins, just a beginner) I think heat/bright sun triggers migraines for me, too. So far, yoga seems okay for exercise. And walking when the light is low (dawn or dusk)

Yes I know it’s hard w bright sun and heat on the head too. Yeah I try to wait till the sun goes down to walk also
