I also was having hellacious headaches I could not function. I was then prescribed devalproex and amtriptyline and now I only hear bells caused by tinnitus

I have got meningitis they confirmed doing Spinal tap.
This spinal tap has caused post meningistis Headaches.

After the spinal tap, the spinal fluid starts leaking.

If i lay on the bed, i feel OK, but if i stand immedeately my headaches kicks IN.

I went to the ER, they put blood patch in the same area where they did the spinal tap, this closed the spinal fluid leakage.

Since then feeling much better.

But after 5 days again i started experiencing a slight headache, ate hot spicy food may be if this is causing the headache.

I don't know yet.

Any one on the board please share your thoughts.

Where is everybody that used to be in this group? How is everybody doing? I too have had 2 awful causes of meningitis. I thought I was dying. The 1st 5 days in the hospital but the 2nd was 7 days in the hospital and 3 days in bed before getting to ER. I have always had the fear of having it again. The Dr. said I will have it again it's due to the herpes 1 virus it stays dormant in my spine. I've never had a cold sore or herpies. It's in my spine. Time has made the headaches better.

Refine 3456- I still have headaches 1 year out. They said mine are from Pseudo tumor cerebri. They did several spinal taps to confirm a high opening pressure. I have heard there are people out there that just have headaches for a long time after this. If you are still having headaches, talk to your dr & let them know. Mine finally sent me to a pain management clinic which helps me get by. I hope you have found some relief by now.

Tendonshurt-Obviously there are not many people on this site anymore. I check it every once in awhile since I am on here for Pseudo tumor cerebri. How long has it been since you were sick with this last? I am scared too that I will get sick again. To think my life was almost gone within a matter of hours 1 year ago today still freaks me out.

Hi everyone. I have had meningitis twice. The major one (herpes zosta virus in my meninges) was back in late 04. I spent about 6 weeks in hospital. It took me about 6 months to get vertical again. I then felt 100% for about a year.....and then bang. I have been battling bad deep constant foggy headaches ever since (well, actually, just one headache that's lasted 6 years). It gets worse if I get too tired, stressed, drink alcohol etc. I have seen about 20 neurologists all over the world and have tried about 15 types of medication. The best I have used (and use now) has been Lyrica. It's been the best for coping with the headaches and with the least side-effects. I'm at a loss. I agree with one comment that seeing an infectious diseases doctor may be the way forward. Any help, advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I was hospitalized 2 years ago with meningitis - first diagnosed as bacterial, then suspected maybe just viral. In any event, I have had headaches pretty much every day since then. It feels as though my brain is swollen & is being crushed by my skull. I thought perhaps I should see my doctor about this, but now reading these posts, see that it is not uncommon. I also have demyelination (possible MS) so not sure if the headaches could have anything to do with that.

I had Meningococcal meningitis tho that was in 1974 along with shingles at the same time. I have suffered from migraines as far back as i can remember, Tho i stll get them at least 5 times in a month time they continue to try to treat me. They never said that it stemed from the meningitis tho i have had nothing but health issues ever since, and there persisting, I was just diagnosed with Hidradenitis Suppurativa as well last year.

I was hospitalized in August 2011 for 9 days and they found that I meningitis, they feel that it was caused by west Nile. I have struggled with the headaches almost every day since I recovered. I have found caffeine seems to aid the severity of the headaches. I was told that this side effect would subside within a few weeks of being discharged but they have not and its been 5 1/2 months now. My doctor wanted to prescribe me narcotics, but I work with children and cannot.

I have a 8 year old grandbaby who had spinal meningitis when she was a baby liked to have died now she has alot of issues going on now she sufferes from anxiety,,, seperation disorders she has no immune system she has cought staff from a simple prick on finger I have set up a open group on facebook about people we know or has or going thru stuff like this you go to facebook type in spinal meningtis and it will carry you to that place..

I also notis that stress and anger trigers my headaches , so I try to stay away from stress or people that make me mad , stay active, positive, relax and well all do it could only be mental relive , all the help it's well come.

Hi , I hope all you guys doing ok , I just started a new medication:

GABAPENTIN 300MG .

Common uses: treating certain types of seizures associated with other medicines, it may also be used to treating nerve pain associated with herpes zoster (shingles) infection (postherpetic neuralgia).

Common Side Effects: Clumsiness ; constipation ; diarrhea ; dizziness ; drowsiness ; dry mouth ; nausea ; stomach upset ; tiredness ; vomiting ; weight gain .

So far is working , and well I just start taking it , almost instantly the headaches when away , I could smell the rain , the grass , and after a year finally start filing like my self , just before meningitis , I know still too soon, but for now I'll take it , since Im back to smiling , and enjoying life , I hope it works permanently and maybe could also work for you guys. I don't have any more information about this medication, but I will try to keep you post it with any new information.

im new on here and I hoping you can all help. I have a 6yr old girl who had viral men in july. Now dec...Now everytime she gets a cold or little under weather she shows all the same symptoms headaches pain in neck sickness temps. And very lethargic. If I call the doctors im told its a virus she will get over it but we do this on average twice a month.. could this be post viral? Is it a new case? What can I do to help her? .... thank you from a very lost mother that sits here watching a porly child sleep.

I think her immune system needs support. Focus on good quality whole foods, less sugar, salt, and white flour products. A quality whole food vitamin supplement, and exercise daily. I find getting enough sleep helps a lot too. I would look into alternatives for relief of illness, depression, anxiety, headaches etc. for future wellness. After having Meningitis, the body is very sensitive and more vulnerable to illness, with good over all care the immune system will have a fighting chance.
