Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
Bunny, like you, I think one of my biggest problems is dealing with the fact that my family and friends don't get it. I think I really do get it, at least in my head, but I don't want to believe it because I want to live as normally as possible and I don't want to be JUDGED or put a wrench in anyone else's plans or expectations. They just tend to roll their eyes if I say I can't go out in the sun for just a little while. They don't get it that sunscreen isn't enough protection and that it can make us sick internally, not just cause rashes.
I just need to get better at not caring what other people think of me, which is the hardest part!
It breaks my heart to read your post. I completely understand and feel the same way. I have two boys ages 11 and almost 9, my life was completely stopped for 6 months and now is slowly starting again. BUT I will never be able to enjoy the sun or fun outside anymore unless I go into remission. Now I am severely anemic I have been anemic for over a year but now my rheumy is extremely concerned. It seems like it is always something. When we have more than one AI it seems like one or all have to act up. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I am sick of complaining but it seems like when one problem is helped another goes out of control. I am always under water with something holding me down. I was always so happy and full of life and this disease or diseases have sucked all that optimism out of me. I am no longer the kind, thoughtful, sweet person I was. I used to always see the good in people and now I see the bad. I am angry, sad and lonely.
I really do hope one of these days remission or a cure are in our forecast.
I hope you will have a good week-end and will be very careful outside.
I know you know all that and I understand that its so hard sometimes especially with children and a family and things going on in the summer.
Take care of yourself and remember that you are in my thoughts.
