I started plaquenil Dec 11 and as each day goes by am feeling more and more exhausted and useless. I feel almost like I'm going through a really bad depression except I'm not at all depressed and my moods are good. I'm not sure if it's the meds or if it's just this time of year because it gets so busy. I feel useless and it puts my previous usual low energy to a whole new low....hoping if this is a side effect that it gets better soon. I do plan to call the pharmacist when they're open...especially if this continues. But trying not to worry too much as I know I've just started treatment.

I felt pretty bad after I first started Plaquinil. I don't think it was the plaquinil, it was just how slowly it worked for me. I don't remember what the dose was, but it was slow. After 6 weeks, my low grade fever that I had for 7 years went away. The last thing that got better was nausea and I think that may have taken a year.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

They say that it takes months for the plaquenil to take full effect. There was something that I read somewhere that said that plaquenil helped with depression. Somehow it works on the nervous system, reduced inflammation or something.

Just wanted to let you know that Plaquenil sent me spiralling into Depression and had to stop it for that reason alone. It is a rare side effect, according to my Rheumatologist.
I would ring your Rheumy and check it out with him/her.
Do hope you get to feeling better soon, especially as Christmas is almost here.

I am currently on plaquenil but this was my second attempt at taking it. The first time I tried it, I had to stop because I felt so horrible! This time, I got on cymbalta and then tried it....Much better! Maybe you just need to find the right combination...

I am on plaquenil too and it seems that I am a bit depressed but it seem to be like one day a week... which seems so strange to me... I am not one to get depressed so I am thinking it is the plaquenil. Guess that will be a question for my rheumy in two weeks.
