This community is a place where you can share your long distance challenges and triumphs, vent, give long distance tips and ideas, or just get support from people like you who are going through the same thing. Whether you live a couple hours away or a couple continents away, the specific challenges that face a long distance relationship are unique and difficult.
I met my man at my residency for grad school last November. I was married to a man I was trying to get away from and he was in a relationship. Their relationship ended shortly after that and by February I knew I was in love with him. I finally got the courage to kick my husband who had hurt me time and time again out. I met up with him in Boston (I live in the Pittsburgh area he lives in Maine). We spent four days together during Hurricane Irene and I found that love was real. I am now going up to see him for New Years and see him in his natural environment. If all goes well I will move up there this summer. I am scared and happy at the same time. I get scared it wont work and I will be alone...
He realizes machinimas and one day he auditioned for a minor role, I got the part and started working for him emailing my lines since I lived in Southern Italy while he lived in Northern England.
We developed a friendly relationship on Skype and after a few months he'd become one of my closest friends.
As our friendship got closer and closer our feelings deepened as well and we eventually fell in love.
He confessed to me over Skype and I turned him down initially in a fit of panic: I had never had a relationship, let alone long distance, and I had never met him in person.
Afterwards I felt as sick as I could be and thought I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't at least try since we both had feelings for each other and he just seemed so right.
I told him his feelings were reciprocated and we've been in a long distance relationship ever since.
I moved to his town in England for 3 months last year and even though it was a failure in terms of finding a job and settling there it was crucial for our relationship.
We're going long distance again for an indefinite period of time now.
