Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The lonely person may find it difficult or even impossible to have any...

I hate to get on here and do nothing but vent. I just don't know where to turn any longer. The loneliness I am dealing with has gotten the best of me and I don't know if I want to deal with it any longer. Its the most degrading, humiliating feeling. I work as a caregiver, yet I have never had anyone to care for me. So many of us are lonely, or going through our own dilemma's. Its just so awful hard. I do nothing but work, I have no social life, no enjoyment of life. How do you go on? How do you cope. I am so very exhausted of trying to think of ways to make some kind of a life for myself. I have no one. I don't think this is how life was meant to be. I have read every self help book out there, I have tried to force myself to feel better. I just don't have the energy any longer. I hope and pray for things to change. I have tried therapy, I have tried self help, I have tried talking to friends, or family, No one seems to have the time or will to help . How do you do this? How do you just exist with nothing more than worry inside???

I know this is stupid, but after not being able to find a job after graduation for almost two years, I ended up just taking an online teaching job because I couldn't find anything in my field. I was trying to get out of teaching and I feel so devastated. I felt this crushing feeling when I signed the paperwork and when I was in the meetings. I know that sounds so dramatic but it is how I felt. It...

Tomorrow is National Massachusetts Day!Have you ever lived in or visited Massachusetts? If so, tell us what's great about the Bay State!

You sound exhausted. Here is a BIG hug for you. I think sometimes it helps just to know that someone listened and understood how hard it is. I could feel your difficulty when I read your words. Here is another hug.
Can you find a way to spend 5 minutes a day on giving yourself a treat? Maybe listen to a favorite song, or drink a special tea, or use some nicely scented hand cream, or sit and look at the flowers or the birds, or just enjoy not doing anything for anyone else. It may seem like a small thing, but claiming that small piece of the day as "my time" could give you a sense of being more in control.
My experience with feeling overwhelmed: Focus on small actions or changes that feel doable. Trying to change everything is too much. Making one tiny change can feel really powerful.
Another thought: As difficult as things may seem, I bet there is at least one thing in your life that you would really miss if it was gone. Maybe the ability to breathe without pain and struggle. Maybe the ability to walk. Maybe having a roof to sleep under. Maybe being able to wear what you want without social pressure. Maybe feeling free to express your opinions, without fear of being imprisoned or tortured or killed. Maybe having eyes to see the stars at night.
Then, for each of those things, realize that there are people who do not have that.
This is not to say, oh, you should feel bad or guilty for how you feel about your life. No. This is just saying, as bad as your life may feel to you, there is always also something good in it. You can notice those little pieces of good more often, and that may give you more strength to get through the difficult parts of your day.
Maybe get a notebook, and stop every hour, and ask youself: What is one good thing that happened in the last hour? And write it down. The good thing might be: No new bad things happened.
It sounds like you are having a really hard time, and I just want you to know that someone heard you.
I'm pretty much in the same boat as you...work a lot...no social life...pursued many self-help books...etc. How do I cope? Well, to be honest, it is via "hope"..."hope" that tomorrow will bring a new person into my life who may become a good friend. Without "hope", continuing on in life can be difficult.
Like you, it seems those of us who desire to help people also don't have people who care for us. I can't ell you how many time i have experience physical pain because my desire to help someone was so great. Yet, it does get lonely when there is no one around when I need someone.
So can we help each other? Most of us have the same needs/desires...to have a few close friends who unconditionally love us...and who we can love back. Friends who we are there for when they are in needs...and friends who stand beside us when we are in need.
