If you were looking for a date, there are dozens of sites on the internet. but no coomparable sites for forming real friendships,
where you actually know the person's name, etc.. Baffling.

I'm 59 and haven't had a close friend in many years. They move away and don't stay in touch etc, etc, etc.
Of course, I'M not the best either.
Meeting people is easy; church, as you say, and other things. But CONNECTING is the tough part. Try places and groups connected to things you like and can TALK ABOUT and ENJOY.
Like, I'm from Pitsburgh. Love watching a Steelers game. Can name barely 3 or 4 players and don't feel bad about missing the game. In this town, makes you an outcast.
Would love to find folks who consider theology, philosophy and/or science; who love to argue!

Church can be a great place. But if you like theology and they're concerned with their kids' soccer games, it falls apart; they have other "support groups". You just go to the same church.
Don't know your own passionate interests, but that can be at least half the battle. (As I hinted, try living in Pgh and not really caring about sports!) Find a group/place that cares about the things you care about.
'Course, If you like the off-the wall" stuff I do, you'll have a tougher search. But I'm a rarity.
So look for the proper group, not just the easy one. They're out there and looking for YOU!
