Go!! :)
An expression used among lots of typical ppl is, "...to see who is there."
One could initiate a conversation, even, "I came for probably only a couple minutes; I didn't know if anyone I kew would be here." A little lame, I know. Kinda likely it will lead no where... But if you find no one, not one, standing idle for a moment something is wrong & it's no place for a reflective person who wants to be open.
In this latter case -- their loss.
I had to start somewhere.
The flower grows from the earth not knowing if she is a weed or a blossom - but she doesn't care, she just grows. Grow, glow, and smile. Keep your eyes wide open, your lips like the Mona Lisa, and express love. People will come to you. Ignore all around you except that you are beautiful.
I have similar issues. These things always sound good until its time to go to it. then suddenly I just want to stay home. I suggest you go for it!!
A fun and easy one I went to was game night at someone's house. It was great for interacting with new people. Just remember, everyone, has had their first time for a meetup, so they should be pretty friendly if you are that way yourself. Make sure you look good, then you'll feel good and confident, go, smile, take an interest in the other people and ask questions about a hobby or other meetups they've been to, that takes the pressure off of talking about yourself.
Im trying to do more, like taking up someones offer to do happy hour with people I know a little or going out with a new friend, but the meetup thing just scares me a bit. Im trying to talk a friend into going with me atleast my first time so I wont feel so alone. She hasnt said yes yet.
Its just the whole feeling of being left out or walking into a group of people who know each other and Im the only one who doesnt. Silly I know. I need to get past it.
Im in a big city so there are tons of groups to join. Its the first step that is the hardest I guess. I need a push. lol
It'll be worth it in the end.
