Hi everyone,
I'm new here and thought I would give trying an online forum as a way to connect with people who also feel lonely. This seems like such a taboo subject to bring up in direct conversation, but I'm glad I found this forum. I have felt lonely for a couple years now, following my diagnosis with postpartum depression. The symptoms of my psychiatric illness have made it difficult for me to reach out to others when I feel like I'm drowning and so alone, like no one understands or would want to be bothered by me.
I feel so embarrased and ashamed that I feel like I can't connect with anyone anymore. I'm anxious and depressed and I feel like these define me, but I know I'm so much more than that. Here I'll say it, I could use a friend who just "gets me." As a natural extrovert, this new concept of loneliness has really been making me feel so down, to the point I've nearly come to the point of giving up on my life.

Therapy has been helping more...but I keep telling my therapist that my situation needs to change and I think I'll be able to climb out of this new social anxiety and struggle with depression.
