Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The lonely person may find it difficult or even impossible to have any...
I'm a senior in high school right now, 18 years old. I've gone to the same school district my whole life and I know a good amount of people, to an extent. However, I have severe social anxiety and depression, and I'm probably on the autism spectrum. I have zero friends in or out of school, despite being involved in a number of organizations and knowing a lot of other 'gifted' students. Over the last two years it has caused me a massive amount of stress and self-loathing, especially as I go to school every day and watch as all these other people I know fit in with their friends effortlessly. And the feeling extends out of school too. I always feel immensely inauthentic and guarded, and it is seriously impacting my ability to properly function and has brought some really dark thoughts. I genuinely don't know if I'm just extremely unlucky, too socially awkward to be able to fit in (I'm told all the time that 'I'll find my place/people' but it doesn't make the loneliness go away), or if I'm just unworthy of having conections.

It's been some time since my last post...sorry. I've been going through a challenging time with the sale of my home, purchase of a condo and my adult asperger son that lives with me. I've had days where I couldn't get out of bed, days where I stayed in my pj's and days where all I managed to do was eat, drink fluids and take care of my Sweet Mia kitty. Sweet Mia came to me from a shelter about...

If I come to DS and it won't do anything when I click "Login", I go to a post, click and then click "Leave a Reply". Then it will let me log in.Of course, sometimes DS just goes to "Error 504". Then I can't log in.

You are alive, therefore worthy.
There is no doubt from reading your very well written post that you are very smart, understand your challenges, and want to make changes as you move into young adulthood..
I remember well back to 2015 when my son graduated from HS. It was an outdoor affair, as each student got up, there were cheers or clapping. When my son got up there was silence.
He is 27 now, still has no friends except for people on line and casual relationships with his coworkers. You on the other hand have casual relationships and have participated in group activities...he was not capable of doing that.
It's a very confusing world, leaving the safety of a life long journey with people you know, is scary and a challenge.
I do hope you will move towards what makes you happy, gives you a sense of purpose and meaning in your life. Just being kind, doing what you can is enough.
Always remember that mistakes are Learning Lessons....we all make them no matter our age...it's a life long process. <3
Funny thing about high school. Most students probably feel they don’t fit in. I certainly did not fit in and had only casual friendships, we didn’t socialize out of school. I was bored and restless, an introvert. But college was great and they insist you teach yourself- or so it was way back then.
So you have a lot to look forward to! I always worked a part time job in high school so I highly suggest doing that if you don’t already. People are generally serious at jobs, especially the older ones. ( older than your peers). I learned so many good skills at my part time jobs. I was praised and told I was a good employee whereas at home, constant stress and criticism.
