I separated from him domicile-wise. He went back to live with his family and we just "talked" on the phone mostly everyday, several times a day. Often I'd have to unplug from him even on the phone ...We would visit eachother though. I think that's the way it has to be if they're abusive.
In the end he became less aggravating/physically aggressive, and/or actually it was me who learned to adapt and understand him to the point that I knew how to handle him- what to do and not do. He didn't like me not reacting to his unnecessary chaos. He wanted a challenge/excitement. He's gone now (end of January). He had diabetes. He had just turned 56. I believe he really did love me. At least he always said so and I choose to believe it. We got married after 6 mos. or so and were married 6 yrs 2 mos. I miss him, yes. I was just starting to adapt to him and love him more.. You know the more you do for someone the more you love them. It's an investment. Familiarity doesn't always breed contempt but an understanding, and knowing how to cope/ love.
I wish you the best with your man...
