loiacki i'm with you in trying to convince my woman marriage is the right thing etc etc.but we can't agree on things like where would we hold the cermony .but i can't understand why we can't have proper marriage like hetrosexuals do.to me all a civil cermony does is give you some legal rights.

Another issue that can hinder marriage is lack of support from family. Kier says why bother having a ceremony if our family won't show up and support us? I feel it is about making a vow before family/friends, whoever will listen and support, and publicly taking a stand. Kind of like shouting from a mountain top "I love this woman"! It is the icing on the cake to have the rights and benefits that come with it, and to have it legally recognized, but I just want to make it formalized. That is what marriage is to me.

I'm a fan of actual marriage. I know it's very hetero... but still.

It isn't fair that they can get married and have all those benefits and both of their names can be on birth certificates and they can have their medical decisions made by their partner-spouse-person and we can't just because we're homosexual.

I think hetero and homo should just be taken out of the whole equation. It's love. End of story.

Marriage should be for everyone. Commitment ceremonies are nice but they're just a pretty thing that says you're together, when you still get no actual legal recognition.

If I decide to get married-committed-partnered-whatever someday with the woman of my dreams, I want everyone to know she's my woman and I'm hers, and only death will come between that.

For me, the word "marriage" is tied to the church and the covenant two people make in front of God. If my partner and I wanted to make a committment in front of God, I'd probably call it a marriage. I'd still avoid the use of the word "wife" though as I believe that's tied to the days of ownership, the man paying a dowdry, ect. The word is just not right for me. I don't mind anyone else's use of it though.

Partner does sound business like - I agree. When Genea introduces me she says, "This is my Kimberly". I suppose that conveys some ownership as well, but I like it. It's simple.
