Whenever i cant sleep i try to remind myself that, although a lack of sleep will make the following day harder, it wont stop me in going to work and getting on with my day, so i shouldnt worry too much about it.

My take now is you shouldn't really have to take anything to sleep. Sleep is as natural, normal, and healthy as breathing. And we don't have to take drugs to breathe.
Instead, there's always something else going on that disturbs the sleep. That's what you need to find out and treat. I suspect you may have more going on in your life than just insomnia if your doc has prescribed such a potent cocktail of Rx drugs. Not sure what that is, but if you continue working on those issues, your sleep will tend to improve.
That and good sleep habits of course. Have you ever tried CBT sleep training methods?
