My marriage is still alive.
He totally understood why I wouldn't wear the old anymore. The old represented nothing good in our marriage. It didn't mean anything to him. Now, he looks at my ring everyday. He notices the new and the rebuilding of what marriage is supposed to be.
We eventually will be renewing our vows. When we do, I will be getting a band of diamonds to complete the process of healing.
He has payed up and down emotionally, physically, and now financially.
If you don't feel comfortable wearing your ring than don't.
Funny we were watching America's got talent last night and we both mentioned how weve never been to vagas. I said one day you will buy me a ring and ask me to marry you again. Thenwe ango to vagas to remarry.
I kinda wish I didn't have to put those ideas in his head.
When I took my ring off, it was literally the first time I've not worn it since the late 90's. I mean, occasionally I'd slip it off just to see if I could get over my ever-expanding chubby digits. But I never did not wear it. It meant something to me.
So when I took it off, I think at first I just wanted to hurt her. And it worked. But what did I gain out of that? Nothing. When we sat down and talked about working things out, I put it back on. And I told her that as long as we were married, I'd still wear this ring. I'd still behave like a married man, and would still oblige the vows that we made to each other.
After today, I'm most certain that this ring will be coming off. But despite that, I will still wear it until papers are signed and our marriage is dissolved. Until then, I'm still her husband, and she is still my wife. Now, it's not within my control to make sure she lives up to her end of the deal. Thus far, she hasn't been interested, so I don't have high regards for what the piece of jewelry means or doesn't mean to her.
To me it's a symbol. A powerful symbol that has been abused. While I'm not eager or enthusiastic about taking it off, I'm also not in a hurry to ever wear another one. There's too much pain to overcome. To many negative emotions.
I guess because it represents my commitment to her, not her to mine, I don't see any reason to take it off. My commitment hasn't changed.
She lost hers a long time before the A ever happened. She now wishes she could find it, once she lost weight to where she could wear it again, and now that it is important to her again.
Now that we are rebuilding I get pissed when I see it off, he takes it off to shower and I get mad every time, it's a trigger for me.
I've subsequently put it back on and kept in on for the most part. I just can't give up on us yet. Tomorrow I'm moving back home after 7 months of separation. Hopefully it'll stay on, but I am prepared for the possibility that it may be over. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that!
