I've been faced with a dilemma (sp?) and know that I can always count on you guys here to give me your heartfelt advice.
Back in the dating scene again after an 8 year relationship with a 'cheataholic". So ready to open up my heart again. Have met what I would categorize as just a wonderful man. Has everything going for him......great career; lives in the city in a cute condo; rides a motorcycle (I ride as well!) great looking and dresses really great! In any event, we've been out a few times and walking outside the other night, drops a "bomb" that he is an alcoholic. Has been sober for 2 1/2 years. He wanted to be honest and upfront with me which I appreciate. I'm sure it was not easy for him to tell me that but sure respect him for that. I've never been faced with something like this before. I have sure faced adversity in my life and have learned to overcome. Part of me wants to give him the benefit of the doubt and part of me wants to run! I was broken hearted when my previous relationship ended and it took me a very very long time to heal. I just don't want to fall in love with him and then have to face taking care of him if he falls back into his pattern.
I understand there are no guarantees with anything in life and we have to face these things. I'm just not sure I'm ready for that.....any thoughts or hugs or words of wisdom would be so appreciated!

There are no guarantees but you have options to protect yourself with a man that is an acoholic but sober 2.5 yrs. Let time tell before you make any rash decisions. I knew a woman a few years ago that was alone for years raising a son. She met a man that was impressive, well dressed ect. She told me once she thought of things that she thought would make him upset just to get his reaction and how he handled it. He did well. But it was a long process because she too had been hurt prior. Listen to your gut feeling, it's usually never wrong.
