However, for the real kaboom, go to Chapter 22. Basically the conclusion of these folks, and believe me they looked at it pretty hard, is that some societies take sex way too seriously. There are a lot of reasons, the first 21 chapters, for people to want new sexual partners. The book concludes, basically, "what's the big deal". Some cultures accept infidelity as something normal and/or almost inevitable. As long as it isn't thrown in the face of the married partner, it is possible to look the other way. The authors make the case that we, USA in particular, tend to blow up lots of marriages because people are doing what people do and what they are doing does not have to be a big deal.
Now, I am completely monogamous, and I would find it very hard to be in a relationship that was not monogamous. Having studied all of this stuff for decades, I really don't know if I could get to that point.
But, maybe this is how you are thinking? There is the view you have your head in the sand, but maybe your view is that this happened, it's not at the level where you will break up the marriage, and you seem fine looking the other way. Now you probably want to ask yourself, what happens if he keeps doing this.
Bottom line is that what you are doing isn't necessarily wrong.
So yes, you could be over the affair in 6 months if you've completely disconnected from him emotionally and no longer need or want a romantic relationship with him. People get to the point of being done and maybe that's where you are.
