We have blown our savings.....the account we started together in college before we were even engaged. We are also building a house and we have sacrificed LOTS. For instance, this last IVF cycle just cost me hardwood floors! :-((

so we are talking at least 10 grand? Is that per cycle?

My insurance is covering most of our IVF procedure but our doctor did recommend ARC Fertility. They have some financing available and even have options for refunds- which you probably won't need. :)

Each cycle costs us about $11,000. Ugh. Insurance pays zippo!

I asked my in-laws for 20 grand (loan). So far I paid 12 grand for my 1st IVF including meds. I'm praying that it will work on my first try. There are some programs if you are under 37 and meet their criteria that the cost might be significantly lower.

We are also cash pay. It is going to run us about $10,000 I recently wrote a journal entry breaking down all the costs for us. Our RE told us about a few different programs that you can apply for, but you have to be within certain income brackets along with a few other qualifications.

We took out a loan through Capital One. They loan money for medical treatments. We borrowed $16,000 and it will take 7 years to pay off. It really sucks because my IVF was not successful!

Well, I'm not a millionaire (wish I was just for this IVF reason) so my only advise to you and those who aren't is save, save, save. Every penny left over I put into a savings account. I/we have no insurance for this. So far I have spent about $19,000 and that includes three IUI cycles with Clomid. Thinking back, I have sacrificed a lot. Going out to dinner, buying myself new clothes, going on vacations etc, but I hope it will all be worth it in the end.
If you are really set on doing this, I hope you find the money somehow.

We paid $7500 out of pocket. $1000 for freezing the eggs, so a total of $8500. Insurance covered the meds.

ok so let's say the first round doesn't work if you are able to freeze some of the eggs do you have to pay another $10,000 for the 2nd round?

Hi there - the FET (Frozen cycle) is usually cheaper as you don't need the same amount of monitoring, drugs to stimulate ovaries, aneasthesia, retrieval, culturing of oocytes. etc.
My fresh cycle (covered by ins) was $14K & the FET cycle was $4-5K.

I wil try another fresh cycle, and although my INS won't pay for the retieval & transfer. It will pay for the monitoring & meds. That is about a $4-5K saving.

We are doing a program w/ our clinic. It is 12K and this includes a fresh and frozen cycle (I can only use the FET if the fresh cycle did not work and I have course have to have some embryos to freeze from the fresh). We financed the 12K (as our ins covers nothing!) through Capital one for 5 years...ugghhh...guess it will be worth it if this works! Best of luck!

ok so piggy backing another question/clarificaiton onto Skuhn... The first initial IVF round is roughly then thou and if you opt to take out a bunch of extra good eggs to freeze for future reference it's only around 6thou-ish due to already having eggs to work with in a dish? SO for two IVF's if smart decisions are made its around 16 to 17 thousand? Is this a correct assumption summery for first timer IVF folks?

I got lucky too when I found out I was covered 100%. I just started my first week of Lupron last night/this morning and we are stoked. If it wasn't for my insurance, this wouldn't of been possible. I wish everyone the best of luck!

Wow...this is a loaded question... I'm guessing that each state is different. I am in Georgia. Once I was referred to a fertility specialist (my obgyn did all he could to help us first- HSG test, Laproscopic surgery, 3 IUI's and then on to an RE.) we had NO coverage. The RE charged 2-3,000 for two more IUI's. In January we started the process for our first IVF. We took out a loan with Captial One. This is one of the companies that offer low interst medical loans. We called and were approved for a 4.5% fixed rate in less than 5 minutes! We took out $15,000. We kept $3,000 for meds and gave $12,000 to the RE. Our second IVF has been paid for by a stock option that my husband cashed out.

Basically, you can expect $12,000-$15,000 in costs per IVF cycle.

I would highly recommend trying for a low interest/low payment medical loan before I would wipe out a savings account, retirement, etc... That's just me though.

Ask your dr. for some info on loans. Also, try googling "IVF Loans" and research some info that way.
