Does anyone else have this diagnosis? It's when ur tubes r blocked and clear fluid builds up. The research I've done shows lower IVF rates due to leaking of the fluid into the uterus. I'm thinking about getting one of my tubes surgically removed bc it's the worst one due to a tubal many yrs ago. Any thoughts/experiences?
How did you get it, do you know? I have endometriosis and already had a miscarriage which was ectopic and my other tube burst. It was a scary time. My hcg (is that the right acronym?) went up really slowly over 4 months. Turns out a wonky tube (my pet name for hydrosalpinx) causes the embryo to slowly die through toxic fluids...so that is probably why my miscarriage lasted for ever.
I am going to start IVF after the surgery, probably in December. How about you? How are you doing with the news?
I'm so sorry to hear about your 4 mo m/c. That must have been so hard on u. I had a m/c my first IVF that was only 4 weeks and I was devastated to say the least.
I had laparoscopic surgery last year dec 2011 to see if my tubes were okay bc of an ectopic in left tube when I was young that ruptured. The result- left no good at all, right tube had to force fluid through so basically blocked fully too.
Long story short, my OBGYN told me research has shown lower success if tubes aren't removed due to toxic fluid that builds up from blockage. IVF success rate is supposed to be normal when tubes that are fully blocked get removed. My re told me at my consult in feb that my tubes being blocked doesn't matter.
I'm thinking that I'll do surgery too but I'm so scared!
Yes, I was diagnosed with hydrosalpinx tubes that had to be removed prior to IVF. You are not alone :) I was diagnosed with stage 4 endo June 2011 and was told by my OB who specializes in IF that my tubes were both blocked and IVF was my DH and I's only option. When I met with my RE to start IVF in November 2011 he looked at the pics taken from my lap in June and saw my enlarged damaged tubes he described the fluid being toxic and killing the embryo. He said many IVF studies in Europe show that if the tubes were not removed, those women would have very low success rates in IVF. He said if I did not have both tubes removed prior to IVF my chances of success would be cut in half (from 60% of success to 30%). I had surgery to remove my tubes in December and had to wait 2 months for recovery before starting IVF. I did IVF in March and got a BFP :) I am now 27 weeks pregnant.
As scary as it is having your tubes removed gives you a better chance of success with IVF. I do believe that :) I am so sorry you have been given this diagnosis. It is hard to take such news I really do know. I pray all will go well for you and for you endowife!

So I know it is the right choice to remove my tubes...not just tie them. It's been about a month now since I heard the news. Tgratton, my devastated feeling has decreased a bit and I am doing ok, still if I think about it for a while I get really scared. This will be my third surgery this year. I am seeing my shrink again tonight. The week I heard the news, he recommended I take the week off! I couldn't at the time so he then encouraged me to do nice things for myself, like go to my favorite yoga class or take a bath.
Funny enough, my surgeon was able to do the surgery within a week of meeting him, but I put it off for work, it is the end of the fiscal year. :-)
So now I am planning a 'no more birth control' party with a small group of friends who have a good sense of humor (who can cheer me up). :-)
So you've been through some surgeries before too...I'm stocking up on prune juice (JFK, but not really), and just ordered a rake so I can watch lots of videos on Netflix. :-)
Only thinking ahead, I am doing ok...today.
it's funny, I didn't realize that I had, but I have. It's really painful to go through this and so scary. I know it's possible that it will turn out ok, but...well there are a lot of but's shall we say.
My surgery is October 5th. My last lap was in April so I'm up on all the laparoscopy prep work. Prune juice? Check. (lol)
Spouse (or friends) on hand for the first three days? check.
Jello (yummy treat when it's hard to get anything down)? check.
God, hard to believe we're going for it. I'm so happy to have someone else to go through this with me. Your post is aweful, I wish this on no one...but I'm so happy you are here.
I believe we're going to do this! It WILL be worth it in the end :) And, I'm so happy to have found another person doing this too!
Im surprised this is your 3rd surgery this year. I hope this is the last!
