Hi All,

I'm new to DS and suffer from chronic pain, depression, anxiety and creeping agoraphobia all stemming from sibling incest abuse from the time I was 5 till I was 10; I'm 33 now.

Before I share my story and seek out support and am hopefully able to give back I just wanted to know the etiquette that is socially appropriate for this board.

Incest and abuse is such a haunting nightmare and reality that i just want to know what seems to work for other members as not to trigger memories in a negative way; going in to too much detail, putting a disclaimer if too graphic.

Generally if something is very graphic, we say in the title "Warning, may trigger" but it is up to you how you want to handle that. I think it is very thoughtful of you to ask.

I think this is the most diplomatic board on DS.

I have notice that sometimes members get upset when people join who are not survivors of incest, but rather someone wanting to support survivors. VERY rarely someone comes along that seems to defend incest. That doesn't go over well.

Otherwise, it's pretty much safe to discuss anything. It is common courtesy to put 'trigger warning' in any graphic posts, like Leeshann says.

I, too, would agree with what leeshann and Samadian had to say. If you feel that something in your posting might trigger someone else on this panel, include the disclaimer "Warning, may trigger" in the title of your posting. Other than that, I think common courtesy should prevail, which to my mind would mean no profanity. Other than that, I think this panel is pretty open to survivors' stories and comments.

By the way, welcome to Daily Strength (D.S.) and to this panel/board. I hope you find the acceptance, understanding, and support you are looking for here!

Great comments from everyone. I don't think that detailed accounts of abuse have to be posted and if they are necessary for some to purge the trauma then it would be very kind to warn others of possible "trauma triggers." Also, one of the reasons that I don't post descriptive details of the sexual assaults is that I am aware that TROLLS can and do get onto these sites to satisfy their twisted need for sexual stimulation and I never want to feed that source in writing anyway. I'm sure I am not the only one who has problems with flashbacks though and the guilt that can come along with that.
