A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.

Side effects after total hysterectomy

Hi All! I'm new to this forum but hoping it will be beneficial for me and to others by sharing my experience so far.


After years of not knowing what I had, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Endometriosis in 2015, 1and 1/2years ago  I had a total hysterectomy. I had been feeling the best I've ever felt in years! Up till a few days ago when I started to notice severe hair loss and thinning!! I'm freaking out!! I feel hopeless. 


Can anyone relate??

Hi hun I was diagnosed with endometriosis as well and in recovery from a full hysterectomy. I already started noticing hair loss. My doctor said some women get all the effects almost within the 24 after surgery and others it comes later one. It’s nice to read a post of someone that’s going through what I’m currently going through

I have experienced severe hair loss (as well as skin collagen loss) since my hysterectomy. I am sorry that both of you are also losing hair. It is very distressing and depressing. :(

Hi guys. Did you have both of your ovaries removed? I'm having surgery next week, but she's hoping to leave one ovary. I know this may mean a follow up surgery, but hoping to not have such severe side effects.

I have lost body hair which I am grateful for. Only shave legs once a month or so.
I used an estrogen patch for a few years and I am doing well. Still get aroused and have orgasms. My skin is good too. I gained some weight but have lost most of that. Not got as much energy but my job requires walking alot so I think that is where I get most of my exercise.
Actually I am better than before. I had large fibroids and felt so bad. No ovaries left either. I do credit the natural estrogen patches for helping me.

Im having my Hysterectomy this month due to severe blood lost.
I am 54 years old and still getting my menstruation. I lost so much blood due to 7 enlarge fibroids, I had to get a blood transfusion (2- units). My Doctor recommended the surgery. Did not know the you can lose your hair, what else should I aspect.
