The ear whistling could also be due to a patulous eustachian tube (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patulous_Eustachian_tube). Weight loss or hormonal imbalance causes it. I can hear my own breathing sometimes, too. Will try the iron thingy and see if it goes away. For temporary relief 1) bend the head forward at the neck, 2) lay down, or 3) stick your head between the knees.
The stretch you mentioned is what I do when my back is hurting each & every night! Chiropractor is helping that so not having to do it as many times each night. I'll try that when the whistling is really bad to see if it helps.
