Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
I just include my experience to illustrate how such a small amount can affect someone. I went from barely being able to function in life, to feeling completely healthy.
My blood pressure and heart rate are where they should be. My heart rate last Monday, about 3 1/2 hours after taking the first dose was up to 91, but my body has adjusted better to it after following the schedule I do.
My doctor had me take alternating doses of T3 most recently because she didn't want to increase my dose a full 2.5mcg (1/2 of the 5mcg tab which is the smallest size available).
This goes against everything I've learned through research about the need to take the same dose of T3 every day but, I tried it because it was the best I could get.
I felt fine the first couple of weeks but, I felt like I was on a kiddie roller coaster ride after that.
I'm now taking the same dose of T3 every day and I feel MUCH better.
I suggest that you try taking 1.25mcg daily.....you might feel even better than you do now.
Don't you think it would be great instead of potato chips we could have t3 chips when we need a little extra energy. Not too much mind you just enough to have steady energy.
Orpan. I hope that you find a balance for everything. It isn't easy trying to juggle so many problems. I've found if something is good for my thyroid is messes up my Colitis and if something is good for my colitls it slows down my thyroid.
I can't complain too much, though, I would much rather be dealing with what I have than some of the things that my friends and family has. The old saying "The devil you know is better than the devil you don't know" is a good one for us.
My objective is to take more if I am cold when it is 75 deg. F or higher in the house, and to take less if my heart rate or my blood pressure goes up significantly.
Yesterday my BP and pulse was 107/72 and 68. But today it is 134/80 and 82, so I won't take any Cytomel today.
I am walking a tightrope because I have antibodies for both Graves' and for Hashi's. I will get my next blood test in August.
