Hyperthyroidism Support Group
Hyperthyroidism (or "overactive thyroid gland") is the clinical syndrome featuring weight loss (often accompanied by a ravenous appetite), fatigue, weakness, hyperactivity, irritability, apathy, depression, polyuria, and sweating. Additional symptoms may include palpitations and arrhythmias (notably atrial fibrillation), dyspnea, loss of libido, nausea, vomiting, and...
Something for me to keep that in mind from my end.

I have been menopausal since I was 47 years old and I just turned 60...so I think its safe to say that perimenopause is not the cause. If the TSI was not done, I will ask him to send me for it. You mentioned earlier that this was a much better bloodtest, but I've forgotten why.
Aliso, your recent post on protein and magnesium.... so it is good not too eat too much protein as it will affect magnesium absorption right??? I guess moderation is key with everything. Thanks for your help MM.
I have been told that since I am post menopausal and have some osteopenia and have GD (which affects the bones) it is best to take my liquid calcium, magnesium and vitamin D3 to counteract the bones from deteriorating. Also, I found that taking this magnesium helped with my heart rhythms and muscles. The numbers are 600mg calcium/300mg magnesium and 400mg of Vitamin D3. I take it 2x a day to get enough calcium. Plus, I take 1,000 Vitamind D3 because of all the lack of sunlight in the Northeast in the winter time.. 1,200 calcium is standard and the Vitamin D3 is good. The big question was IF 600mg of magnesium citrate contributing to the stomach distress. It made me feel so much better all around. Now, for the protein.....I question that. I have lost so much muscle mass - and I was told to eat protein. The question is how much. Other than vegetables, proteins supposed to be important to consume. Better than sugar, better then soy, better than dairy, better than processed foods, better than carbs. WHAT DO WE HAVE LEFT TO EAT THAT WON’T MESS WITH OUR GRAVES DISEASE? Help! :-). This is where some of the frustration comes in. Good Luck to all that have an issue with what are the best foods to eat. Take Care.
I did further research at Dr. Dean's website and her Magnesium Miracle book (pg. 94) of how Magnesium is blocked by certain foods that at least 300 mg of Magnesium is needed for the Protein intake. She does have her own protein powder at the website called ReStructure.

The TRAb factors in both the blocking and stimulating antibodies together so which the TSI is part of. The thing is we don't how much of it is the TSI part in the TRAb.
I do not know if just the TSI antibodies test only is available in your country. You would need to ask the doctor that and see.

It is to my understanding that if one uses the Magnesium called the Magnesium Glycinate and try to get at least 300 mg serving of it per day it would help with the Protein intake.

So, I went with my husband to the appointment with the endocrinologist on December 22 and we were told that all my test results were "normal" (ft3 still high) but as far as he was concerned, it was not an endocrine disorder. Then my husband asked him if everything is normal, why does my wife still have all these symptoms and he said that it might be a good idea to see an internist. I will be calling after the holidays. I asked if anything should be done about the colloid nodukes and he said there was no need to, as they're mainly made up of fat so according to him, they are not dangerous. But since I really dont trust this doctor and his MO, I am still waiting to see the other specialist, who also happens to be an internist.
So that's that...just the way that I had called that it would go!! Not being pessimistic, just being realistic with my lousy luck with all the doctors that I have been "blessed" with.
Thanks so much for all your help and support. Will let you know if are able to "fix me".
Take care
Please don’t give up hope.
Since this is a very long “thread,” and my memory is as good as dirt, lately, what was you last T.S.H., free T3 and free T4 numbers? And, what were the GD symptoms you are experiencing, now? Are you taking anything for it (medications, supplements or vitamins)?
I know this is hard to deal with. And, I have heard this from doctors for so many years. And, you think YOU are going crazy. I, totally understand that these symptoms are REAL and you ARE experiencing them.
When doctors don’t want to delve deeper into a patient’s history, they pass them off to other doctors. Or, say, don’t worry, nothing shows in the blood work. It is great that your husband supported you and went with you to the doctor.
Try to stay positive. Keep a diary of what you eat and your symptoms. Take Care.
I'm planning on going to see a naturopath/herbalist in the new year.
Did I ask you if you were taking any hormones? I vaguely remember a conversation with someone who did. NOT a good idea. When I would get my period, I would have migraines and brain fog. All hormone related. Did your GYN do any blood tests for you?
Baylinga,
For the headaches, drink filtered water. NO processed foods, No sulfites or nitrites/nitrates. No wine or alcohol with sulfites. No preserved foods. My neurologist got me to do certain things that helped me with my migraines. Eating certain foods contributes to the headaches.
I wish I could give you a magic pill to make you feel better. I wish you knew what you are dealing with.
Hang in there. I hope the naturopath/herbalist can help you. Take Care.
And no. I am not taking any kind of hormones.
Just trying to get through each day and am hoping that things will get better. Have a nice evening. And thank you for your insight.
As I told you my memory is as good as dirt, lately. :-)
Possibly, a change of diet will make things better.
Take Care.
