I have been on Spironolactone since July of last year and it has changed my life! I suffered for 27 years and tried everything! Finally a new dermatologist suggested I try it. It took about 6 months and 3 increases of dosage but I would consider myself virtually cured! I do have to say though that the first few months on it were really quite bad. I was about to give up but the last increase in dosage seemed to do the trick.
You will have to have your potassium levels in your blood checked every 3 months or so and you do have to watch how much potassium you take in.

Unfortunately I do not think men can take it and I am not sure if you are male or female. It blocks male hormones as well so the doctor told me some men had began to grow breasts so she no longer offers it as an option to men.
If you are female then you do have to watch your potassium levels and get blood drawn every 3 months or so to keep an eye on it. Other than that it makes me go pee more often because it is a diuretic.
You can remain on it indefinitely as long as you keep checking your potassium levels.

I have felt that certain "feeling" like something might be coming maybe 2 times since then but nothing ever happened. It really works for me I just wish someone would have told me about it sooner!
I would definitely see about upping it a bit. I started with 50, then 100 and then 150. It did make me far worse than I had ever been with multiple outbreaks until about month 6. That was my last uppage to 150 mg and a couple of weeks after that it started to really subside.
I have been really stressed with my Mom passing away a couple of months ago and work stuff but I am still staying the course with no outbreaks!

I just started this last month. My derm recommended it and I am clearing up to. Didn't want to get my hopes up, thought it was just another 'remedy'. It makes my head throb a little but i get tested every month I'm on it.

I have seen some improvement. I was told to give it at least three months before judging. Over all I am doing great, I have one place that I need to get injected(going today in about an hour). I already Love Spiro.
I feel hopeful. This new doctor is filled with ideas and up on the latest research. She seems like a real go-getter and intends to have me in remission. That is a great place to start. I have seen some real doozeys over the years and could use a positive thinker in this battle.
She is starting me at 100mg which seems proactive and informed. I can hardly wait to start them tomorrow. I will report let you know how it is going.
