I most certainly can relate to your story. I am so sorry to hear your son has this disease also. My 14 year old daughter was diagnosed in 2006 but has suffered with Hs since 11. I see your point about school. She starting 9th grade in a few days and PE is my biggest challenge. Her HS is in stage III and moving is painful enough let alone PE what have any others done re this???

Shelli, last year when he was having alot of problems with it I had to get a note from his dr. and then they took him out of p.e. and put him into a sculpting class instead. He was having trouble even sitting though because it is on his back side too. Also groin and armpits. I had to talk to the school nurse and explain hs. I printed out some ifo and gave it to his school counselor and nurse so they could understand what he is going through.

Thank You so much I will see the nurse on the 8th of September. The last two years she was in Jr High she was an assistant in the office and they gave her a M for medical. S I hope they will be as understanding in High School. HS is not well known and I will just have to start from scratch and bring in her info. How is your son now? I hope better. Wanted to thank you again for your re school. She started yesterday and will be taking Spanish 1 in liu of her PE class.I had a note from the DR. so taht worked out. I also saw where you had stated that your Dr advised your son to take accutane, Sytira's last appt she stated that she wanted to put her on accutane after reading the info I have seen I will not either! What about Tumeric have you tried that? Do you know of any teenage support groups, because I knoe Sytira feels so alone!!!Thank you again hope to hear back!!How is your son at school is he ok and has his HS gotten any better???I hope so!!!

Shelli, I have read alot of good things about the turmeric. I did try it with my son for awhile but he said it upset his stomach. Honestly, he has done well over the whole summer. No problems with his hs. I really think stress played a major factor in it. I am curious to see if it starts back up now that he is back in school. This was his first week back so we will see what happens...
I'm not sure about any teenage support groups. My son doesn't like to talk about it. I think I may have seen one on Yahoo groups. I joined several groups but they werent really active. Good luck!

I feel for him, I was about 12 when I found out what I had. It is really hard cause it seems like no one understand's. Luckily I had a couple of really good friends that I could talk to. If this help's I always used peroxide in the morning after I showered and it really seemed to keep the redness and infection down. Does he play any kind of sport's?

Hi. In regards to post number 7 DO NOT USE BABY POWDER!! This will further clog the pores and cause MORE cysts to form!! He should also refrain from deodorants and should use an antibacterial soap such as Dettol Fresh Fragance Soap, Hibiclens Both which I LOVE or Dial, Safeguard, or any of the green soaps like Irish Spring (Irish Sping is my favorite of these) Have your son shower twice a day if possible and use a HAIR dryer to dry the groin area completely (towel drying still leaves the area "damp" and we do NOT want a damp dark warm area if we can help it at all. Also make sure he doesnt hold the Hair dryer too closely to his skin, the air does get HOT!)
I also carry those little alcohol wipes to use on my armpits throughout the day to battle body odor from sweating and to help keep bacteria down as well, they work Great and leave no film on the skin to clog pores.
Loose fitting clothes are the key! Have him switch from briefs to boxers, and make sure that his clothes do not bind or feel tight on him anywhere..if they do, either give them away or throw them away but get rid of them and get a larger size..cysts will develop in areas where the skin is rubbed or bound, I actually have a few on my waist line from a pair of jeans that I wore ONE time that were a little tight for me, sigh!
I know this is a hard disease to live with, but he MUST do that..keeping him out of school and segregated from other people is NOT liveing. He NEEDS to go to school..believe me I had a cyst on my face..right between my eyes when I was 12! It was hell, but I went to school and it actually helped build my character today, I am NOT ashamed of myself and will not let anyone else look down their nose at me, I am intelligent and proud. Please reconsider your desire to home school him, he will have this diesase the rest of his life! If you set the standard now of "hiding" he will do it the rest of his life! Let him..no MAKE him, lead as normal life as possible..it will be best for him in the long run!

I agree with 90% of your post.... Not wearing deodorant?? I've never been told not to wear it. It does sting, and alot due to the aluminum, but as a teen my feeling it should be worn. I have found some nice aluminum free deodoants ,even some with tea tree oil in them, that are pretty good, a little girlie smelling but works well. As for the rubbing alcohol..... It seems to dry out my open sores which some of my pain comes from. I have a total of 4 open weeping sores under both of my arm pits including the good ol' tunneling. This what I have found to help....

Thanks Grace, your were really lucky to have good friends to talk to. He is not really into sports. He is more into music. Likes to play the guitar and likes video games mostly.

thanks RebbecaV and FireMedic for your suggestions, as of right now he is not taking anything for it. Just keeping it clean. He does wear boxers and looser fitting clothing. We have used the hibacleanse but only when it was bad. He uses antibacterial soaps and seems to like the body washes with tea tree oil in them and he uses the crystal deodorant.

If you fancy holistic remedy you could try sulpher 30c or silicea 30c.
