I am sorry for your loss. I too lost one of my son's to this terrible disease, 1st time using. I also have my other son who is an active addict, I have 2 more son's who don't touch alcohol or drugs, they are both army veterans, and are on a good path to a fulfilling life. My emotions are running the gamit, I lost my son Michael October 12th 2015. I pray everyday for strength.

Why would you refuse him a place to stay while there's a winter storm raging? You may find your son dies from exposure, forget the drugs...

Jewelz4 I understand your frustration with this. But please this is the times your son needs you the most.

Addiction is a disease. Please don't turn your back on your son because of his disease. This is the type of attitude that makes many addicts shy away from getting help...everyone in their lives turns their backs on them because they don't know what to do or how to handle addiction. Maybe you should find a support group for people who have friends/family that are addicts, because of you truly love your son and want him to get better, shutting him out will only make things worse and put him in worse danger. He may even feel hopeless enough to go use more drugs, or even die of an overdose. People don't realize that addicts need to be treated with love and compassion and understanding. It's a tough disease and it's frustrating for those around, but loneliness and hopelessness leads to more drug use. Support from family and friends (helping in constructive ways) is what they need.

The HUGE problem here is the conflict in various "treatment" approaches.

This woman was probably told by a 12 stepper somewhere to stop "enabling" and keeping him from freezing to death on the street wasn't going to help him, but was in fact going to make his "disease" worse.

I wish non-professionals would find what works for THEMSELVES personally and stay out of others business.

I'm sorry original poster but this sick, hardcore, twisted version of tough love is going to get your son killed of exposure.

Maybe the idiot who's been giving you advice will be there to help you grieve. I doubt it though. Will more than likely give you some 12 step statistic as a platitude and disappear.

And the whole victim/martyr role you're playing isn't going to help either.

He's got an illness. Find what works or don't bother but take responsibility for your actions or lack thereof.

Your above post is the equivalent of the whack jobs who refuse their children medical treatment because "the Lord" will heal them from cancer or any other life threatening illness.

The Lord helps those that help themselves, not those that abdicate responsibility and blame" the Lord's plan"
