I've never tried absinthe either although it's been legal in the U.S. for several years. I think the myth attributed to it is, well...mostly a myth.

All I have now is cheap vodka and expensive weed...wishing I had something more interesting.

It is legal and it's expensive - like $200 a bottle to be sure you get the real thing. I was reading the comments on that website - there is a very specific way of "drinking" it - you don't just dump it over rocks - it's like a ritual, but it has to be done that way in order to get what they call "the green fairy" - I'm serious. It's fascinating. But it SCARES ME, tell ya that. Did my share of trippin' the light fantastic back in the late 60's and had some nightmare trips. I got paranoid on weed and freaked out on LSD - 'shrooms were fairly decent for me, i.e., natural substance, not cut with speed/crap. My drug of choice was BEER.

So I'm gonna have a few beers at this party - in my world, that would mean about 30 of them. And of course I am NOT really drinking anything alcoholic - nothing will ever make me give up almost 25 years of sobriety.

It IS the same stuff Milman; feel free to wikipeida it. And as Levicah said, it is the thujone (from a plant) that is supposedly psychoactive but apparently it's only present in trace amounts.

The NY Times did a taste test a few years back with quite a few different types all purchased legally here. I think It's over 60% alcohol.

Levicah is the resident expert on all things alcohol related, btw.
