Live Biopsy

Good morning everyone.

I just wanted to talk about liver biopsies..as I am having one next Thursday and have no idea what to expect. It'll be a CT guided needle biopsy. Maybe it's better not to know - heh.

Exactly how painful is it? And they told me it'll take 4 hours (most of that time will be the laying down part afterwards, to make sure there's no hemmorhage).

Anyone wanting to share experiences, fire away!

Honestly, it is scary because they are going into the liver. But I have had three of them and I think getting a tooth pulled is worse.

I lost track of how many liver biopsies I've had over the years, but I do know that it's been more than ten... You see I'm working on my 14th year post liver transplant and I'm getting old - meaning I'm losing my memory every year since...

Everybody who has commented is telling you like it is, and it all comes down to what level you are with regards to your own specific pain threshold...

So, if you have a high tolerance for pain, then tell them to sedate you and you'll be fine...

Sandy's correct that a tooth pull hurts much more! I've had a few of those done over the years also and I can attest that they do sting more than a biopsy for sure!!!
