Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
My sister was recently diagnosed with hepC and she has a multitude of other different abilities that she was born with. My issue with the treatment used is that she can not tell me what is going on as she does not have the ability to talk. she just started treatment last friday and has been crying ever since with diahrea and not sleeping. I dont know what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!except for crying which is a nice release but not helpful in the deciusion making process.

Sounds like she needs a doctors care. I am on tx and I have a team of nurses guiding tx, and monitoring any side effects. Good Luck, and hope it all works out well for your sister.

Many of us either cried or felt like crying at first---me, after dx but before tx--- and that's a fairly 'normal' thing. if it goes on for weeks, though, that's a clinical crisis and may require professional intervention. For now, just cry with her at times, and love her always----like you're already doing. She is so blessed to have you for a sis! I assure you I'll be praying for you and your sister; if i can do more than that, please call me.

Treatment can be very hard on a person who has no other health issues, so it must be horrible for your sister to be on interferon along with all of her other issues, especially not being able to talk to you and tell you exactly where and what bothers her.
Wow, I am lost for words here, and frankly the only thing I can think of is like Patti mentionned, a person on tx is supose to start antidepressants 2 weeks before tx, did she?
If not see her PCP, he or she will prescribe them to her.
She also needs to drink loads of water during the day.
Peanut butter is good for side effects also, it does take out some of the toxins of the meds she taking at this time.
How many mgs of riba does she take daily?
Maybe her dose is high for her, again see gastro for this one.

One day at the time
Thank you for your prayers and message. We went to the E.R. last night to rule out what is side effect and what is problem. She is experiencing the side effects, but now also has a viral infection that is causing increased caughing and mucous(she must be suctioned as to prevent aspiration due to her inability to expectorate independently). Thank you again.
