Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
I finished 48 weeks triple tx with victrelis last Wed. the 12th. Had labs Thurs.
My NP called today with the news and said she wanted me to have the TMA part of test done tmrw. We agreed it was soon to have results back, but said I hadn't had the part that has to be sent to Quest. So I called the lab and they said they had done it and it was not in yet......of course I can't get ahold of her, the Dr. or their nurses now.
But I suppose since it was detectable, that's not good..
...I was detectable at 4 and 8 weeks and undetectable at 12 and 24......

The good news I guess if there is a shining start in this whole thing is that Gilead has ramped up the new drug developement I understand and it might be ready as soon as 2013. Compared to what you've just been through, it will be a walk in the park as far as sx goes.
I was stopped 4 weeks early, so I may be right there with you when the time comes.

I did not fully know what a TMA test was until bethann mentioned it here.

That being said I still hope the test brings some good news and if not you have many friends here who are waiting new treatments that won't fail them like the present one's have.

Does the fact that you were treated for 48 weeks mean that you were a prior non responder? Genotype?
As my hep doc told me that first two times I failed TX, it's not all bad news - you're liver got a good rest for almost a year, and that's good.

Most viral load tests, and the only ones available until recently, could only accurate measure viral loads above 43 bastards/ml of blood
under that test, if there were 25 buggers the test would say you were undetectable merely because it wasn't sensitive enough to measure that few
I think in Bethann's case she took the more sensitive test that can measure down to single digits.
So, with this test it could actually detect 25 buggers, hence it would declare you detectable (but less than 43)
there's nothing magical about 43 other than that's the sensitivity of the normal traditional viral load exam

I was treated for 5 weeks 5/10 by an inexperienced gastro.
I have stage 3-4 cirrhosis .....Geno 1A....SUCKS !!!!!
